Is that pic from Natalie's private audition for George? Interesting indeed lol....

I've just looked at the scene in the second episode again and from what I can discern there's no reason to think Obi-wan is newly learning that Anakin is Vader. His shock is merely in learning that he is alive - so I see no contradiction with ROTS necessarily - but it's definitely a contradiction with ROTJ, which all these youtubers don't seem to have noticed, I think they're more PT orientated fans.

Other than that line from Padme telling Kenobi that there's still good in him that you brought up the other day. Though I guess if you really wanted that to fit you could assume that Obi-Wan thought that Anakin died on Mustafar and didn't have the heart to correct Padme, or he knew he was alive the moment she said that but then later for whatever reason believed Anakin to have died sometime between then and the time that the new show is set in.

One thing that I never really thought of until watching this latest episode is that Obi-Wan's casual response to seeing Vader in ANH kind of does suggest that it wasn't the first time the two crossed paths since their lava duel.

Because if that was their first interaction since the PT you'd think that Old Ben would have said some version of "Good God, what have you become" like Ewan did in the new series. That would be pretty freaking jarring having this picture of your old friend in your head (even if it was him disfigured/burned) and then seeing that costume step out in front of you for the first time.

I think I remember having some sort of rationale for why I believed they could have met again between ROTS and ANH and being pretty self-satisfied with it until ajp put major doubt in my mind again. I don't remember what my thinking was, I just remember that I was - however briefly - prepared to accept another duel between them. I'll have to do a search through my posts in this thread.

But Ben must have known Vader was Anakin before ANH otherwise why lie about Vader murdering Luke's father? Why frame Vader unless you know Vader IS Anakin.

I wasn't talking about whether Ben knew that Anakin and Vader were one and the same though. I was commenting on whether Ben knew what Vader's *suit* looked like prior to ANH. And his flippant and casual response to Vader when they met on the Death Star suggest that he had seen him in the suit before.

I mean he's all "Hey Darth, what up" without the slightest shred of surprise at learning just what Anakin has had to wear to stay alive all these years.

Isn't Darth Vader galaxy-famous? He's the Emperor's henchman. He's feared across the galaxy. Everyone knows that suit.
Well I picture famous in SW to be more along the lines of tales and rumors, not that Vader's suit would be all over social media and magazine covers or what have you. So there might have been any number of scary descriptions of what he looks like and the atrocities he committed but I'd still imagine that first visual contact that anyone would have with him would make a person go "whoa."

They have established holo-news all over (especially with bounty hunters). So in 10 years why wouldn't most people know what Vader looks like? I didn't read much surprise in Ben's reaction when he saw Vader's shadow approaching the street -- he seemed to know immediately who it was just by his form.

But yes, being confronted with Darth Vader would still be nerve-wracking to say the least. Ben did run after all. :lol
