I always find it strange how no-one ever asks for Bodhi Rook. He was part of the main crew and is a fairly big-name actor, at least over here in England. Maybe it's just me, I've always been a fan of Riz Ahmed since he did Four Lions.
Have to agree, his absence even the thread title emphasizes how much he's overlooked.

Emphasis from a few posts back...
Honestly there is an obvious intended sadness that permeates this film and it's characters. While on the one hand it's not the gritty end, like the Dirty Dozen or the Wild Bunch, these rogues weren't bad or angry enough, going out.
On the other extreme it's obviously not (and it wasn't meant to be) the Joyful end for them, like Return of the Jedi. It's just somewhere in between, ... sad.
That said I did Love the movie, despite what little time to develop all the characters got:

These aren't the ones who get the medals, the kiss from the princess, the recognition, the glory, or any reward. To the contrary.
Instead we get a ragtag, gloomy, spent, band of Rebel outsiders, yet with plenty of strength, heart and conviction to die doing what everyone else writes off as a doomed, hopeless mission.
There is no one else for it, and they kind of know it has to be them.

-Jyn Erso; character who'd lost her way, stopped caring ""It's Not A Problem If You Don't Look Up." until she finds the truth about her father, who gives her something to fight for again, and a bit of a lost and familiar family in these Rogues, to bring back hope to a once lost cause.
-Cassian Andor: A unique look at a darker side of a Rebel fighter, who'd been doing it so long, following orders, killing, he'd lost his own humanity (and tragically knew it), to the point where there was no turning back, all that was left for him (and his team),to feel like human beings again, was this suicide mission to at least bring about that last hope to others.
-K2-SO: Ironically the cold gunmetal Imperial Assassin droid, Cassian who had lost his own humanity (and become the cold assassin), reprograms to be more human than himself, like if he couldn't be that, his Droid would.
-Bodhi Rook: The Imperial working stiff, cargo pilot, with mundane job, family, routine, who one day risks it all, just makes a decision to do something, and ultimately changes the fate of the Galaxy. (This guys probably the hardest sell as a figure, particularly because the whole point of the character is he's not supposed to stand out, or look like any hero, he could be delivering packages. Yet he chooses to go out a hero.
-Chirrut Imwe: the blind spiritual Warrior (who "sees" in the darkness what everyone else misses) "The Cage we carry within) clinging to a lost mysticism and way, that guides him (or so he wants to believe), and ...
-Baze Malbus: His silent with a big-gun that speaks for him, loyal (to the end) companion, who'd lost his belief, but finds strength in his friends dying action. Bit of a cliche/classic trope, but in the tradition of what Lucas drew from, pulled in to this film fits great into the SW U, and this team's inevitable end.

Great little ensemble team, with small character arcs,, buried within a bigger war/heist epic, with a simple mission; We don't matter, and never will, all that matters is get the plans (and hope) into the right hands, the hands that do matter) that's them, their knowing sacrifice.

That's also exactly why they aren't getting allot recognition (or figures), and will mostly be forgotten. It's exactly who they were set up to be! Forgotten. LOL! So I'm not surprised at the lack of figures or attention.

In the end they are culled from one moment and line in the classic opening crawl,

"...During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon,..."

blink, and in the big picture you missed it, and them.

Maybe if Cassian had been released at the same time as Jyn , or they'd come together I would have got both. But alone Jyn seemed not to fit anywhere, and then again K2 without Cassian still seems adrift.

It's exactly who they were set up to be! "

Also exactly why they transcend that role to become some of my favorite characters in the franchise Especially Bodhi.

One of the reasons Bodhi is overlooked, at least in the context of collectible figures, may be due to a rather dull outfit.

I think rogue one was hurt by the failure of the force awakens line. Rogue one was a big hit, but we got jipped on the figure line because of the poor selling duck troopers. Maybe the edition size was smaller, but all of the rogue one figures sold out fairly quickly. That said, I would love a rogue one cassian and saw.
I’ve always maintained that as the reasoning as well. Howard Chan has lamented how poorly TFA figures sold, and he alludes to that being a dark period.

They were very afraid of another disaster so they were conservative with Rogue One figures.

It’s a shame Rogue One didn’t precede TFA. We probably would’ve gotten more figures. But it’s to the movie’s credit and enduring legacy that we still at least see small trickles of merchandise here and there.

Most excited to finally get Antoc Merrick and a Blue Squadron X-Wing in the 3.75” line.

Riz Ahmed is great and I liked him in the film and Bodhi overall, but Bodhi was also arguably the most underdeveloped crew member.

They should’ve had at least one scene with him interacting with Galen Erso to show their friendship. It would’ve been nice to see him make his decision to desert from the Empire. I would’ve traded that for the Bor Gullet scene.

Any big ticket item of him would be a bit of a hard sell aside from anyone wanting the whole crew. Outfit is not the most exciting. Maybe as a two-pack with Cassian in Imperial Officer disguise.

Purely hypothetical of course. Don’t see it happening. I’d buy a figure of him, though.

I take all the Bodhi points on board, he's certainly not a high priority in terms of that line, even if he was one of the main crew. I'd place him behind Baze, Cassian, Saw, and place him next in line about level with Galen Erso (another one I'd absolutely love to own a figure of).

I totally agree that he was underdeveloped as a character, which is unfortunate. That's one of my only criticisms of Rogue One, that some characters were left a little underdeveloped. Ultimately I'm okay with that and accept it because they had to introduce and kill off an entire team/crew in one 2-hour movie, and the majority of the time needed to be spent developing Jyn, Cassian, and Krennic. I'd be delighted if he turned up in the Andor show so they could develop his character a little more, although not sure whether it was established if he'd previously met Cassian or not.

As for his outfit, at first glance it looks a little bland, but when you stare at it a while it definitely grows on you. I like the TIE Fighter jumpsuit. At least I think that's what it is? Or was he a cargo pilot?

Btw I don't consider the Rogue One line dead at all, not with Andor right around the corner. I could see Hot Toys revisiting the film in the months leading up to the show, capitalising on the hype. I believe they've given us every trooper type from the movie, so that only leaves the names mentioned here as possibilities. I think they'd leave Cassian until the show, so it's not outside the realm of possibility that we see both Baze and Saw as they're the next most logical releases from the film.

While we're at it...

Why no love for SOLO Qi'ra, Lando, and Beckett?
I would seriously consider getting all three. Their colorful outfits would stand out on a shelf.

Ironically enough, I only have the Patrol Trooper and Mud Trooper from that film. I skipped Han himself, as there was no Chewie to pair up with. (I also figured that I had Han covered as the Mud Trooper...)

As for Rogue One, I've got no interest in Saw but definitely pick up a Galen Erso. I even have picked up some loose parts in order to build a custom Galen figure. Its in the queue of "to do's"...

I would have added him to the title if I could but there was a limit to the number of characters in the thread title. At least on the old site.

Maybe now it's possible ??

Yep as Hot Toys really releases when hype is up, it's really probably the last chance with Cassian for any of the Rogue One characters.

I'm afraid it's going to have to be another case of FB comments section leading up to Andor to make them aware of our vote for Baze and others to finish the line while hype is building.

Well, a space has become available after hounding their FB page with the Armorer for the last 18 months :p He'll have to compete with Cobb Vanth for that elusive spot.

A Baze release would have folks hitting the streets with torches and pitchforks, as many passed on Chirrut because of there not being a Baze available.

So unless Hot Toys were to re-release their Rogue One figures (they are half-way there, with Mando versions of Storm, Death and Shore Troopers...) I don't see Base getting done, unfortunately.

If they do it I think they'd do a double and single pack release. They know how many Chirruts they sold, so that's essentially the limit on the number of Bazes they'll sell, but if they release a double pack as well, it would let people get Chirrut too and sell more Bazes.

Why no love from Hot Toys for Rogue One, Cassian, Baze, Bodhi & Gerrera
If you're allowed to change the title at all, maybe^

Yet honestly it's fine, the spirit of the wonderful thread you started is for the entirety of unfinished Rogue One characters, the title just speaks to the start of it, I assumed Bodhi Rook from it anyway.
That we have the thread started at all, is greatly appreciated . :wink1:

Besides Cassian, Bodhi, and Saw, others I'd consider ....will never happen.

That argument is no different to them releasing JL Cyborg.....which was announced today.

There must be so many figures in that category. It's part of the "risk" of collecting with Hot Toys.

The difference may be that JL got a recent boost in interest with the Snyder cut. Rogue One is several years out of the loop, though. But... With the Cassian Andor series coming up, that may bring attention to Rogue One back up and offer a chance for Baze to be released. If that's the case, I would imagine a re-release of Chirrut would be offered. (hopefully it all happens, but who knows. Its Hot Toys...)

Exactly. Hot Toys pretty much only release on hype for popular figures to maximise return.

Without the Snyder Cut release I also would not have anticipated a Cyborg or Knightmare Batman re-release.

So happy we got the chance though !

Also really hope that HT learns the lesson here to finish lines of main characters.
