Still waiting for Favreau to say anything:tap

Not sure what to make of The Mandalorian season three. I still want to support the endeavors of a guy that clearly understands the franchise and it's fans but the longer this drags out the more I think the first two seasons were a lightning in a bottle anomaly.

What is it you expect him to say, though? If he didn't support the decision to fire her, he's not gonna state that publicly.

If he didn't like the decision, he could've threatened to quit. There's no way that LFL and Disney would risk losing the head of their most popular property. So if he insisted Gina not be fired, I don't think they would've gone through with it.

Remember that Favreau is partnered with Filoni on all things Mandoverse. Well, one of the LFL employees (Henry Gilroy) who trashed Gina on social media was co-executive producer with Filoni on Rebels. He'd been at LFL since George was still in charge. And one of the voice actors on Rebels (Freddie Prinze Jr.) also celebrated her firing. So maybe Filoni himself felt the same way about Gina.

Favreau might've just gone along with the firing in deference to everyone else's preferences. Who knows? Either way, Favreau didn't quit, so there's probably very little chance he'd state publicly any disagreement while still employed there.

I don't know what I expected him to say, but at least say something. He is supposed to be in charge of the damn show. All we ever got is a single Story Group condemnation of her from a nameless employee. At this point I'm not so sure even Favreau would be safe if he lashed out. We have a pretty good idea who is behind her dismissal, but we have no idea just how high up the approval process went. Were either of the Bobs involved, etc? The silence surrounding this from leadership and cast just feels cowardly and wrong.

Favreau obviously supported the decision.
He made Iron Man which started the MCU, the highest grossing film series of all time. That MCU money all goes right to Disney Shareholders. He also recently made Lion King for Disney. Looked bad to me but still the 11th highest earning domestic film of ALL TIME.
Star Wars is on life support and he resuscitated it with Mandalorian.
He definitely has ALL the power in his relationship with Disney. They need him more than he needs them.
With Carano, he wouldn?t even have to threaten to quit he would probably just have to tell them that he needed her on the show and they would have backed down.
He is a Liberal who was as offended by her views as anyone else who wanted her fired. If he had known what he was getting he probably would not have hired her in the first place.
If he wanted her to stay on the show she would still be on the show.
Dave Filoni is known for being liberal too.
No one involved in that production was sad to see her go.
Just shocking that she gave up her own tv series, and everything else that would have followed just to tweet. Why don?t people just tell it to their friends in real life?

Attention-seeking/narcissism is at the root of all these issues.

I don't support cancelling her opinion, but she breached the terms of her contract.

Good point.
She should have known better. It?s not a matter of cancel culture, they?re a company that ultimately gets to decide what they feel is worth their while to defend. They obviously decided that the benefit of her acting skills was not worth the detriment of having to defend her every week, so they did the math and moved on.
10000 of her fans can cancel Disney Plus, they release another MCU film and make all that money back on opening weekend.
For anyone thinking that their personal choice of withholding $7.99 per month from Disney is going to make them regret anything I hate to be the bearer of bad news.

Hmm don?t agree

They do care about every penny and lets face it the core SW fanbase remains white conservative males and the USA and international audience has enough of a conservative population to actually make a noticeable dent into Disney subscription revenues if those fans decide to cancel their membership.

White conservative males are the core of the SW fanbase? What kind of horse hockey are you selling?

Good point.

Care to explain Pascal then? They could easily do the show without him too. This IS cancel culture. This IS agenda driven. If you don't think Disney has noticed the backlash go check anything they post on YouTube related to Star Wars, it gets down voted and commented into oblivion.

It's not about the money, though. Even if *every* Disney+ subscriber canceled, a company that expansive would be able to pivot to additional revenue streams in order to compensate financially. That's not the point. Disney operates the different facets of their business according to short-term and long-term strategies for each. Even if only 5% of their current subscribers cancelled, the corporate alarm bells would go off and an urgency for corrective measures would be a very real consequence.

Disney's main current goal with their streaming service is to increase the subscriber count as much as possible. The last thing they want on that front right now is a sizable number of cancellations. I'm not saying that 5% cancellations is realistic, but *if* something like that were to happen, I can pretty much promise you that it wouldn't just get brushed off.

I know you didn?t imply they were the only ones, I am just interested to know what you are basing that on.

I factored international audiences minus China of course they hate SW but love wacky wolf movies for some odd reason lol

You don’t believe SW and SW toys were made popular because of white conservative males and their families

By that logic then they wouldn't care if anyone signs up for $7.99 per month either then and we know that that isn't the case.

I?ll buy the core fanbase is ?white males?. I?m just curious where you get the ?conservative? bit. And no, I don?t believe that conservatives make up the ?core? audience. That?s why I was asking if you based that on something specific you read, other than vague anecdotes.

(This reads as kind of snarky, but that?s not at all my intent)

My reasoning and intuition just feels right lets call it a gut feeling lol

I’ve been around plenty of SW fans over the past 40 plus years

I don?t know who likes Star Wars, other than the fact that I can?t find anyone out in the real world who seems to care about it one way or another.
I?ve spent a lot of time at Galaxy?s Edge at Disney World.
For awhile I was taking my kids every weekend.
No one there cares about Star Wars, you can?t even find one person wearing a Star Wars shirt inside other than the employees.
All of the visitors are wearing Marvel t shirts and they are there to see the latest and greatest in theme park technology not out of any love for Star Wars. It?s a little sad actually.
Star Wars is one tiny ornament on Disney?s giant Christmas tree filled with Mickey and Donald, Pixar, a whole bunch of other stuff, and then the most successful movie series of all time which ain?t Star Wars but the actually beloved MCU.
I personally don?t care who they hire or fire, but if you think The Walt Disney Company is banking it?s company?s success on Forty Something Gina Carano fans you?re in for a surprise.
As a parent of three kids under 10 years old whose friends all have children in the same age range, I can promise you that the capital expenditure to launch Disney Plus was justified based upon children and families, not for Mixed Martial Arts fans who liked Star Wars before Disney took it over.
