Re: Patrick Stewart is back as Captain Picard!

Yes Kirk would have just stolen a ship but Picard had more diplomacy. I like Kirk’s style more but you have to give Picard his due for trying things the more legal way.

Totally agree with you but I would have loved it if someone had said to Picard that he should pull a Kirk and steal the Enterprise-E out of drydock.

Re: Patrick Stewart is back as Captain Picard!

Oh yeah, is the Enterprise E still the Federation flagship in this series? I don't remember it being mentioned yet....

If they're keeping the Star Trek prelude book canon, then the Enterprise E would have been destroyed and they would now be using the Enterprise F (which was introduced in Star Trek Online). I think there was a prequel book on the Picard series and he was the captain of an Odyssey class ship, which was the same class the Enterprise F would be.

Re: Patrick Stewart is back as Captain Picard!

Anyone else think they should have mentioned the Eugenics Wars at some point, i.e. "It was the second time humanity had faced a revolt by beings of its own making."

Re: Patrick Stewart is back as Captain Picard!

I need to read those books about Khan and the Eugenics war. I always thought it was cool for the backstory in earth history.

Yeah there are parallels to that here. But, the eugenics war also had an ethical issue behind it (modifying humans).

This one though... I don't think "AI" applies to them yet. These robots seem more like an advanced version of Siri or Alexa compared to the sentience we see in Data/Dahj. What happened (from what we see) is akin to a starship's main computer getting malware and causing it to open fire on other ships and then self destruct.

I was thinking that as well. What Enterprise is the Federation on now?

I’d love for them to make a reference to Kirk, or for Picard himself to make a reference to Kirk. For instance, when he was lamenting in the first episode how all he’s been doing lately is waiting to die, I thought it would have been cool if he said something along the lines of as an old friend once told me, ever since I took that promotion to Admiral, I haven’t made a difference.

Re: Patrick Stewart is back as Captain Picard!

Just googled the Enterprise F

Looks like the offspring of Enterprise E and the USS Voyager.

I actually thought Ep 2 was making the point the synths were more sentient than the humans gave them credit for.

I thought he committed suicide due to the malware to hide evidence of the tampering on his programming (commanded by the attacker to cover his tracks) rather than an act of guilt.

It's one of the more beautiful ship designs in Star Trek Online IMO:

The twin-keel design is weird, but everything just flows on that ship. I also love the huge bridge.

You're probably right. I thought it was due to his breaking one of the laws of robotics.

Re: Patrick Stewart is back as Captain Picard!

I just watched episode 3. I found the editing on this one quite wonky. There are multiple times where they changed camera angles and there is no continuity in the body positions of actors (Patrick Stewart especially). Took me out of the moment at times. Also, I am not liking the new characters introduced here. Their motivations/emotions/actions look forced.

Re: Patrick Stewart is back as Captain Picard!

Also, anyone find it weird that someone had a cigar and someone else was vaping in this show? I thought they no longer smoked in the Star Trek era? :slap

Re: Patrick Stewart is back as Captain Picard!

Ok a few more things I don't get....

Spoiler Spoiler:

This episode just soured me towards this series. :panic:

All of that. They appear to be playing very fast and loose with canonical foundations in what looks like a transparently desperate attempt to be relevant and contemporary.

The narrative machinery itself isn?t so bad by this episode. Fun albeit predictable, pulling us along as expected.

But it?s their foundation that has me wondering WTF.

I?ve watched Trek since TOS reruns when I was a kid, but I?m not a super-fan. Have to wonder what the true fandom thinks across the board since this doesn?t feel right.
