I bet you can guess who scared the crap outta me when I was a kid...it wasn't freddy or Jason or zombies....they weren't 'real' to me. But Kane in Poltergeist 2 was my worst nightmare. No masks, no FX, just the scariest old dude on the planet stalking a child.

I would throw all of my money at a Kane bust. ALL. OF. IT.

The Exorcist. :rock
Yup! This was also one of those that terrified me at a young age though I didn't see it until the late 70's/early 80's. I could not bring myself to watch it again until well into my teenage years.

Know what's strange about that film? The part the bothers me most is where Damian is listening to the recordings he made , trying to figure out what she's saying and what language....

And the dude says..."it's English......just backwards....."

Total spook out chills every time...

"I AM NO ONE!"

Films that kept me up a night as a kid

1. The Exorcist (film is still the only one that gets under my skin)
2. Psycho (The music and the fact I thought it was a guys mother for most of the film really freaks me out)
3. The Sentinel (Gateway to hell was not as scary as the old man in the apartment above)
4. The Prophecy (the one about the deformed bear. I lived in the country and some of this film looked like it was filmed in my back yard)
5. Legend of Boogy Creek (just like the Prophecy, living near the woods helped this film keep me under the covers)

I saw the TV version and it scared the crap out of me... I then saw the regular version on VHS when I was 15.. I saw the Crucifixion scene and I understood why people fainted in the theaters back in the 70's It really made me feel light headed... Never seen or heard anything like that scene.

Now its all the more subliminal things that get under my skin.

When we were young, my friends and I would spread rumors that playing Black Sabbath, Styx, and Led Zeppelin backwards would give you a message from Satan. LOL! We scared everyone including ourselves. :lol

Many still say The Exorcist is the scariest movie ever, even though I despise those "most ever!", "of all time!" kind of lists. But it's true. LOL! The movie holds up very well even today.

That Psycho theme song is awesome. I'm watching the movie right now as a matter of fact. :hi5:

I have a hard time coming up with a film that's more scary then The a Exorcist.

The remake of The Hills have Eyes really bothered me. Just to horrible to watch rape and slow killing that had ....too real. But that's not really scared more disturbing and graphically real...some of the kills in the Halloween Rob Zombie did bothered me for the same reason.

Yeah, it's tough to find something scarier than The Exorcist, they exist, but it's all subjective. However, it is fact that back in '73, they had people throwing up in the theaters, people walking out having not finished the movie, and complaints. Lots of complaints. LOL! Now that's awesome! :lol

Last House on the Left :lecture

Yes! I will cue this one up next. Great horror/thriller movie.

Is it just basically torture porn? Cause Zombies films , and Hills have eyes are pretty thin films that basically IMO are just torture porn....

Pretty much. Not much else. Like JAWS said it's more for shock value. But the more you watch these type of films the more you become desensitized. Then they're no longer shocking.

What about the conjuring?

Loved it and still do!
The sequel is good too.

But that's the kind of horror I enjoy. Possessions, spirits, curses, evil spells.

The hack and slash horror with a body count no longer works for me, but I enjoy watching the older ones I grew up watching ( Halloween, F13, NOES).

Yeah I used to enjoy a good slasher film.....but now they don't work for me either.....just seems like a string of kills loosely pit together with so,e weak plot.

Devils Rejects is a prime example.....nothing to that movie at all but a bunch of kills....

I really enjoy campy slashers for the 80's nostalgia. Torture porn is horrible, can't watch that crap.

I just went on a huge 80's slasher flick romp (Prom Night, Terror Train, Graduation Day, Final Exam, etc..). I Enjoyed them more now then I did then. I always like the Friday films and Halloween but when I was young I always just saw the other films as rip offs... Now I appreciate them for the silly films that they are.

I don't hate Torture Porn. It's not my go to genre but I enjoyed SAW and last Halloween I watched the entire series over a week and found it to be a fun watch. I think Hostel is pretty damn good and was very uncomfortable watching it well before the torture started.
