I paid $300 for SS old Ben on ebay, and I'm so glad I did. This HT version looks extremely poor in the face; doesn't capture Alec at all. The Sideshow sculpt is much more accurate. The SS hands are wonky clones, shared by farmer Luke and Han... but I can forgive that. Even the hands on this HT release look really odd. The 'two-finder' pose appears to be an attempt to suggest a so-called 'force push' which Ben never even used. The 'Jedi mind trick' is a more casual gesture.
Something tells me the people who made this are young, (not yet alive for the original films) and they're putting too much of the 2nd trilogy ideas into this OT figure, including the gleaming clean robe. *happy pass*

$300! :horror

No wonder you are saying happy pass. :rotfl

Not there yet.

I think if they thinned out the beard on the sides, it would bring in the likeness a bit, give him that gaunt face, make him look older. Looks like they had it right in the show pics, but filled it out in the revised version.

Either way, it still looks really nice. My SSC Old Ben is in parts in my bin, waiting for me to bash it back together, but alas, it will remain as such, replaced by this year's model.

I think the narrowed eyes are still an acceptable Obi-Wan, this is a determined Obi-Wan facing off against Vader, as opposed to SSC's more neutral, peaceful Obi-Wan. Just a more modern take on it.

Nope, but it's a lot better than it was. Still, with our dollar the way it is, I'm not pre-ordering anything more than what I've got. I'll bide my time on old Ben. Just hope the eyes closed sculpt is not an exclusive... HT seems to be pretty cheap with them nowadays, though, and an additional sculpt is probably too coveted not to include with the main set. (If it's included at all -- guessing it was just a mock-up in that initial teaser?)

There was never an eyes closed sculpt. The teaser sculpt has the eyes open, that was just people wishing and wondering, trying to squint through shadows.

yodasan, I know you're just kidding (sort of) but consider this:
Now that the HT version is coming, (and episode VII coming) I could sell my SS exclusive (with the holographic BENDING OVER Leia) for a higher price than I paid, to someone like myself who prefers the SS vastly over the HT. I won't, but I could. It's all original, non-repainted, pristine, and they only made 1977 of them. (5000 of the regular)

I don't see this HT version being nearly as sought after, ever.

Too bad, because that would've been an awesome addition and way to pose the figure with Vader. I know I'd have alternated between the two. Still, glad they tweaked the sculpt and hopefully it bodes well for Han and Chewy.

This is a huge improvement than previously shown, even if it's still not a spot-on likeness. Certainly looks a lot more like Sir Alec than HT Solo does Ford. I'll be PO-ing, but still prefer Trevor's sculpt. Anyone hoping for a sub-$200 MSRP must be new here...

That HT hand just needs a bit of lube, and he's ready to perform a 'Jedi Probe' on Luke...

After the explicit photo shoot of SSC Ben over in the Han Hoth thread and now this, I'm gonna rebuff any bearded mentor offering pearls of wisdom.

Figures are not priced based on how popular they are with fans. Figures are priced according to how much they cost to make.

No.

Was that a dig at me? I'm certainly not new to 1/6, i'm thinking Stormtrooper pricing here. Although not a human sculpt, i made the comment before i noticed it also had the LED saber. With Han being 229$ but coming with more i could've seen it 199$ (hopeful) without the light up feature i guess.

That does actually seem very high. I was watching over the past month or two and even with the increased demand in that timeframe (due to the initial mixed reaction to the early HT Ben proto) it seemed like SSC Ben was going for somewhere in the $110-160 range before shipping (I missed one in-box at $80,) and a few of those did seem to be exclusives. I seem to recall it's a slightly different Leia hologram to the one that comes with R2. I would have said the average price was around $130 or so, though a couple did get toward $200, but maybe yours was customized in some way - I saw one or two of those that were definitely up in the $300 range (repaints, etc.)

People are sour over BRJ 2.0 because of the version that was released 6 years ago was much less expensive. Things cost more to make now than they did 6 years ago. That's just the way the world works.

A similarly priced figure with a comparable number of headsculpts and accessories, nowadays is about $230 (BD Terminator), add in a $15 Convention "exclusive" premium and Sideshow's distribution markup (which at $25, seems to be in line with what people are saying about SSC prices versus HK prices anyways), and I really don't think the price is far off the norm.

And considering SSC is shipping this figure for "free", saying "$270 BEFORE shipping" doesn't really mean anything. The figure costs $270, full stop.

Probably not a figure I will end up buying, but please let this mean that they have tweaked Chewbacca!

If you see one for $110--$160, BUY IT. Remember, the exclusive with bending-down holo Leia was limited to 1977 pieces, for the 30th SW anniversary. (so it's eight years old now.) When I bought my exclusive, it was the only one available on ebay- about a year ago. The others were all non-exclusives, and the bidding went up higher than $300 in those cases.

Why use the BR Joker 2.0 when theres much better examples out there? Like the $379.99 Ultron Prime, or the $345.99 Iron Man Mark 43 thats a repaint of the already overpriced $310.00 Mark 42. BR Joker 2.0 is looking like a steal these days.
