Well it's been confirmed that they will be in IW so this will probably have a bigger MCU connection than the first.
I remember Gunn huffing and puffing after the success of the first that the sequel would have nothing to do with the Avengers.

Mind you, it's a bit hard to ignore the Avenger connection, when the first Guardians movie is the movie with the biggest relationship with Thanos to date..

This film will sell so much merchandise. Even I want Starlord's new casual space shirt with alien language logo. It's a nice world building detail too. Must be some kind of alien brand.
