Just finished it. Awesome movie. Again, got to be in the mindset for a long film, but it kept fresh continually throughout the movie. No BR2049 long burns, always something keeping my interest along the way. I think Villy realized he cannot have long periods of stagnation throughout a movie. Plenty of cool sci fi gadgetry. Let's hope they get to finish it.

How is a prop gun able to kill somebody?

Someone's messed up big time there - either by mistake or maliciously.

"Prop" refers to an item used for filming. Hence a "prop gun" can also be a genuine firearm, which the armourer is meant to ensure is loaded with blanks. Blank rounds can also be dangerous.

A prop gun is not always a toy or fake gun and it can be, in fact, a fully functional weapon.

According to the website of The Specialists LTD, a company that provides prop weapons to Hollywood productions, prop firearms fall into three categories.

Blank-firing guns are real guns that fire blanks - bullet shell casings with no projectile.

Replica guns are made with metal, resin, plastic, or rubber and designed to look identical to real guns. They do not fire.

Non-guns are similar to replica guns but have the added feature of an electronically triggered muzzle flash - the light created by a blast - to simulate a weapon firing.

A spokesperson for Baldwin said in a statement that the incident involved the misfiring of a prop gun with blanks.

Television writer David Slack, who has credits on series such as Law & Order (1990 to present), tweeted after the tragedy: "Prop guns are guns. Blanks have real gunpowder in them. They can injure or kill - and they have."

I was so hoping going into this that the political religious intrigue would captivate me unlike anything i’ve ever experienced before in cinema.

I am shocked how uncooked the layers were I wanted lasagna deep and I got a pizza lol

It was really on the nose corny levels of drama with some really poor acting at times especially Poe’s scene right after the assassination attempt on his son and what a silly assassination attempt it was we are talking AOTC levels of bad.

The witch stuff especially with the sound design was awesome i’ll give it that I was really captivated by it BUT the problem is I could care less about the Fremen they were handled so poorly as was the emperor house drama there was nothing to it the set up against Poe Dameron’s family was comical.

The knife fights were all lame.

Please tell me the greatest literary sci-fi story ever created is more than this bubble gum intrigue, if not, yikes.

I really enjoyed it. It was visual stunning and the sound design was pretty amazing as well. DV gets me every time, and this was no exception. I had realistic expectations going in, and this did not disappoint. I will say that A LOT was left out, It could have been 10-25 minutes longer. But it was still very good. I'm looking forward to watching it again soon. Obviously, if no Dune 2, it will be a HUGE disappointment. This movie, as it says, is just the beginning, and it doesn't get to a good bit of the action from the book. Where it ended makes sense, but there is a lot of ground to cover in #2.

The holographic shield just didn’t work for me...

Well, in light of Jye's disappointment, I'll quickly add a little more light on my experience.

I liked the movie a lot, but it has a big but.... As always, I felt it was too long -- the first hour and a half I was mesmerized but Villeneuve tested my patience in the last hour. Way too many "visions" toward the end. I get it. I thought Tim the twink did a good job. I thought Zendaya did nothing (pouted alot as usual). Mamoa was good, Brolin was his usual sort. The witches were intriguing. The Harkonnens not so much. The SFX were outstanding. The realization of the different worlds was well done but lacked a bit of color.

Overall, for me, a very worthwhile experience... but it has its usual "Villeneuves".

**NOTE: "Villeneuves" is a moniker for too much time with little amusement.**

I really wanted a ton more out of the Harkonnen.

I did love their pet rubber spider though and how he walked out of the room feeling all sad like a kid not allowed in a clique lol

Fremen ALL sucked!

I forgot about that spider-man thing. That was creepy. I don't remember it from the book (truthfully I barely remember the book since I read it at 13 years old) but I would have liked more of that kind of stuff.

The worlds were so vivid yet somehow devoid of life. All I saw were politicians, noblemen, witches and soldiers. I got no sense how the various worlds worked beyond that. I'm not sure how they would have gotten that across economically, but it would be nice to see city streets and villages and how the people lived if for no other reason than to set apart the nobility of Atreides and Harkonnens Houses.

I always had a problem with Dune and its relatibility. Movies of that world exacerbate it.

The entire premise relied on:

1. Caring about the Fremen
2. Caring about the fall of Atreides
3. Caring about Paul’s destiny

1 was boring
2 was shallow
3 was intriguing

But sorry no room for actual World Building.

I just reached the scene where the spider has to skulk out of the room.

It's a funny film to try and get a handle on. At first I thought it was going to be as majestic and slick as BR 2049, but instead it feels quite old fashioned. Maybe it's truer to the novels, but the costumes also look quite retro and plain. (Like the medal ceremony at the end of Star Wars).

It's also very beige, grey and muted. Apart from the vibrant blue eyes of the Fremen.

I expected it to be light years ahead of the original film, but instead it somehow feels like it's from an era much closer. The original Baron Harkonnen was also more interesting.

I'm not surprised jedibear fell asleep. :lol
