I just realized that "Tomb Raider" mean 4 different things now: i) the 1996 game ii) the 2001 movie iii) the 2013 videogame iv) the 2018 movie. Did everyone gave up at the board meetings? :slap

To be fair, the 2001 movie is branded Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. I agree that the reboot/back to basics method of re-using the original title is lazy and creates confusion in the long run.

I've completed every TR game aside from Chronicles and Angel of Darkness - my favorites are probably 2, Legend and TR 2013.

Anybody playing the remasters? How are they?

Yup, half way through TR1 and loving it. I've played a couple levels of T2 and T3 also.

I haven't bothered with modern controls, i'm playing the games as designed with the tank controls. Definitely took me a couple levels to get used to such old school mechanics again, but i'm breezing through controls now like it's 1997 all over again.

New graphics are beautiful, the games still have a ton of atmosphere, especially that first one. A few minor bugs here and there but nothing major and i'm sure these will be irorned out over time with patches.

The games are still as tedious, hard and sometimes janky as they were back in the day. I remember all of the game mechanics from back then so i've been fairly patient with some of the controls. I have noticed some newer players are struggling with it a little, but ultimately these are 25 year old games and still very much play as that.

I think overall they have done a wonderful job. I'm having a lot of fun and it's been very nostalgic for me. I have nearly broken my controller in a rage multiple times, but that's kinda part of the old skool TR experience haha. Even to this day i still need to use a walkthrough in places because i still get stuck a lot!........these games don't hold your hand at all, they can be brutal.

Returning back to the style of TR that was all about exploring, solving puzzles and getting out of tricky situations has felt like a breath of fresh air. The survival trilogy from the last decade was good for what it was, but i really hope the next line of games they are working on delve even deeper into raiding/exploring/platforming. With todays game tech, having Lara dropped into a vast open world game where it's filled with traps/trophies and actual exploring would be amazing. Combat is fun, but it should be taking more of a back seat imo.

TR1 from 1996 has more than it's fair share of combat, but the actual tomb raiding is very much leading the gameplay.

Good to know. I love that they're using the LAU model for her, the updated visuals also seem to be in good taste, unlike the garish GTA remasters.

I'm ashamed to admit this but I never really beaten the old Lara games despite playing all of them when they came out, they're just too difficult for an idiot like me. I think it's probably time I rectify that. Plus I still have some strategy guides so I'm gonna dig those up!

It's not just you. The games are great at making you feel stupid, i still get stuck all the time and have been using guides when i'm left running in circles for over an hour trying to prove to myself i know what i'm doing haha. The fans on the TR Reddit page are all feeling the same.

To be fair, i do feel like the games sometimes can be VERY illogical with it's expectations on players. Sometimes there are ledges or switches that are absolutely invisible to the naked eye which can be VERY frustrating as a player. Other times though, i'm simply not paying attention ahaha.

The games are a lot of fun, but still frustrating. Tomb Raider 1 has the best difficult progression, i'd start with that if you choose to play the remasters. TR2 and TR3 are just purposely made to make you angry and no one will convince me otherwise haha.

Everytime i boot up the game i say to myself "deep breath, you will get stuck, you wont solve everything, there are guides".

I think that’s the whole charm of these games haha. Modern games look pretty but they are so easy. Have a great time with remasters so far. Still in the middle of TR1, playing them slowly. Personally I enjoy dying million times lol brings back so many memories.
