Wow! I had no idea this hit WL already. I know it could be shenanigans from SS, but it wouldn't surprise me as it is a new Fett from a comic, which HT has never done before.

I dont think its shenanigans, I think they genuinely went to waitlist as the edition size is comparatively small. SSC did say "limited time offer." I notice he's still waitlisted today.

Well, looks like this variant was a success. Smart money says Mando will find some reason to go "stealth" black paint soon enough. Just you wait. *KA-CHING*

1) Toy Fair figures have a long history of hanging around for *literal* years. Please someone let me know the last one that sold out within only days/weeks.

2) Sideshow has a pathological history of letting figures go to waitlist and then putting them back up for order.

Just a couple things to think about. My guess is this will go back up for order without the free shipping promo. I mean, think about it. If this figure was truly limited then why would they have offered free shipping right away to begin with, it would have sold out regardless of that extra incentive.

If there are more, they'll sell those too as the predominant mood re this figure is a general wailing and gnashing of teeth [social media]. That was an extraordinarily short PO period and people are very angsty about it.

of all things, this was the one to get my friend to finally cave and get his first hot toys figure.

he loves comics, loves boba, and loves symbiote spidey, so it adds up.

i think the overall popularity of this release comes down to the fact it really appeals to both crowds:
- it’s a canon appearance from a badass comic, in a great event, written by a great author. not just a random repaint.
- on a surface level, it’s all-black boba and just looks badass in general, even if you couldn't care less about the comics.

still very curious whether this is false scarcity or it’s actually this rare though…

If this is legit sold out there are gonna be some crybabies on social media and some online beggers when this ships.

I hate repaints in general but this is a solid exclusive because it has a story behind it and a tangible comic cover it can be displayed with to back it up. I didn't buy any of the silly chrome/gold/porcelain troopers but this was an easy purchase. HT all white prototype version with the beach towel coming at you in summer '23.

yep was just thinking, with the buzz around this release you can bet they’re already working on the white version now

Never say never, you can’t predict when a company decides to do a 180 turn in their strategy. But history indicates this will be back and be back for another couple years. This is a year out from general release. I can’t think of a single figure in recent years that went to waitlist a year out. Hot Toys wants to fill as many orders as they can. Part of the reason why figures in general have such a long window from PO announcement to release is because Hot Toys can look at those numbers and determine how many figures to make based on the POs plus a certain amount extra that they have calculated.

One of the reasons we are seeing so many crazy deals now on stuff from HK sellers is that those sellers PO’d crazy amounts, betting that the demand would be there and they could sell them all for big profit. Hot Toys simply makes that number even if the real consumer demand isn’t there, but what does it matter to them if the retailers sit with dead stock? Hot Toys has already made their money. When stuff releases early like the ROTJ Scout, it’s likely an indication that they weren’t getting the PO numbers they maybe expected and decided to go ahead and release what they did make, so that’s one I could actually see not hanging around as long as people think.

If this is really coming out in a year I doubt ht/ss would leave money on the table and let pre orders sell out within a day.

@hypnobrett not sure if it was a year out but heavy mando sold out during pre order. Only figure I can think of that did.

Probably due to YouTubers hyping it as the best thing since slide bread.

Heavy Mando didn’t go to waitlist until after it released in HK, same with Mudtrooper. With those two figures there was definitely something odd going on—a lot of people were buying simply because YouTubers and such kept saying it was going to be “the next Shoretrooper” and that the entire HK batch sold out in a day. But then you could still find them for basically retail in the aftermarket because of how many people bought them simply to try and resell.

Got no sympathy for flippers, in this or any hobby. When flippers get what they deserve, I just laugh.
I have zero issues with Hot Toys resellers/flippers/scalpers. These things are available to buy for years. If someone wants to invest extra cash and hedge their bets that they can buy some extras of a figure and sell them later for a profit, go for it. But the HK resellers have messed up the market so badly the last couple years that it’s definitely not a bet I’d be willing to make anytime soon.

I just assumed the 2023 release year was a typo since it’s shipping from HK already. I can’t imagine this won’t ship for another 18 months or so.
