Re: Hot Toys - MMS 253 - Guardians of the Galaxy - Groot & Rocket

I feel dirty for ordering these. I was able to cancel my Batman Armory and get the deposit moves over to this set which is really the only reason I went for it. So my set will basically be $300 if I consider that NRD was already spent. Downside, that was my one get out of NRD free card. I so love the Guardians and even thinking of maybe putting together comic accurate costumes from the DnA run when my skills get better. But I love the characters too much not to have them in the collection. Falcon may be next to bite the dust.

They let you do that? I had ordered that Robocop figure a long time ago and it keeps getting postponed and I no longer want it. I'll have to see if they'll let me put it towards another figure. I take it from your "get out of NRD free card" comment that you can only do it once?

Re: Hot Toys - MMS 253 - Guardians of the Galaxy - Groot & Rocket

I was thinking a few days ago how i would love to have my favorite band in 1/6 scale. My shelf would be a stage with a 1/6 drum set, working lights and speakers that you could play songs thru. If i had the skills i would make my own.

A friend of mine has the Cheech and Chong figures, in their Band costumes from the 'Up In Smoke' movie, next to his Hi-Fi.. puts a smile on my face, every time I see them. :lol

Re: Hot Toys - MMS 253 - Guardians of the Galaxy - Groot & Rocket

Except the movies were not very succesful and the figures would be remaindered.. Hot Toys know that.. so despite your passion for those licenses, you are not getting the figures.. unless you set up a company to rival Hot Toys and prove them wrong.. or pay approx $1000 for each custom figure.. There is a reason certain licenses get a lot more attention than others and its simple economics, not a conspiracy.

That is why the phrase 'exaggerated sense of entitlement' gets bandied around when referring to posts demanding all the figures for all the licenses a particular fan likes, with several head sculpts they approve of and a range of screen accurate accessories, for $150.. because it is completely unrealistic.. and when those fans turn up on every thread they regard as responsible for delaying Hot Toys Bubba Ho-Tep figures.. they are going to take some flak.. its not attempted censorship, its just peeps pointing out the cold hard economic facts.

I like the Groot figure, I think RR's feet are too small (practicality rather than screen accuracy, I think Neca are going to have a similar problem with the Alien Queen figure), and the price for the twin pack is probably about right.. however, like with the TWS license I'm probably not going to go in for this line but i'm delighted GotG fans are getting figures and I hope the film rocks.
I don't love those licenses the dare devil movie was we'll not really good and the first fantastic four was ok but the second was not as ok I'm a Star Wars fan I don't love those licenses I'm just trying to say that hot toys needs to add variety, they have the power to make any character from any marvel movie. And also I'm super exited for GoTG I can't wait for that movie I just think hot toys needs to spice it up

Why does Hot Toys need to add variety? Does Ferrari need to offer a line of dirt bikes or motorcycles? :dunno

Re: Hot Toys - MMS 253 - Guardians of the Galaxy - Groot & Rocket

Ok... I'm gonna be the negative person in this thread...

I think it's really unfair that the extra heads are exclusive. I just feel that exclusives items should be items you want...
but aren't really necessary for the figure. AKA I REALLY want the extra heads.
:lol

GRRRRR!

Re: Hot Toys - MMS 253 - Guardians of the Galaxy - Groot & Rocket

I was thinking of getting these this morning but I have already changed my mind. I might be won over if the movie turns out to be great but I don't think so.
There are just too many other items out there I would instead. Harlock is still on my list along with 1966 Robin. And I'm still holding out hope that SS is going to unveil some cool stuff for the DC one sixth line at San Diego. I'm also thinking of getting the Titanfall Threezero figure just because it looks awesome and is so different from anything else in my collection.

Because In terms of marvel they are only making important characters from the main cinematic universe and nothing from x-men except wolverine where's cyclops colossus jean magneto prof x etc... Also what about fantastic four or the lizard

Hot Toys can't even move Spider Man units off the shelves, and you want them to dive into an XMen sink hole. :lol

There's other 1/6 companies out there than can make those characters, but not even they are bothering. Ever ask yourself why?

With Rocket teeny little feet anyone else think it's gonna be damn hard to keep him standing?

:goodpost:

X-Men Days of Future Past was such a missed opportunity. Highest grossing & highest rated CBM of the year with lots of interest.

When was the first time?

T1000 Donut head with Sarah Connor springs to mind

I take the point you are making,, the problem is that, effectively this is asking for variety, simply for the sake of variety.. and many peeps asking for this variety would not buy the figures they are suggesting should be made instead of a Batman or an Iron Man (to be fair this is not unique to these collectibles.. Vinyl Art collectors tend to complain about popular artists 'getting all the attention' and again crave variety they are not going to buy).. and therein lies the problem, for us this is a hobby, but for the companies making the figures, it is a business.. yes, many of the employees may also be fans but bottom line is, the figures that are made, are mainly the ones that Toy companies think will attract the most customers.

..and often there is simply no pleasing some fans, no matter what the companies do.. example, Sideshow announced the ANH Luke Pilot figure.. second post in response -

Wow, they finally got round to doing an X-wing pilot! From what I can see I'm not crazy about the head sculpt though.
Looks like SS are announcing their SDCC line up before the conference this year.

The promotional picture was heavily stylised and was not of the actual product........ :slap

GotG is a new liine and imho most of the flak these figures are getting, is simply because some peeps were hoping Rocket Raccoon would be much cheaper and didn't want to buy the two pack.

X-men sinkhole I think a hot toys night crawler would sell better than hulk but I'm getting off track this is an argument. Because this is an argument I will believe what I say and you will believe what you say we will not agree with one another so let's stop, this page is about Groot and rocket.

That's fine and I agree this is sidetracking a tad :monkey3, but did you ever ask yourself why not a single 1/6 company bothered to do Nightcrawler or Beast figures?

Good point but I still have dreams of a ht beast... :lol

Re: Hot Toys - MMS 253 - Guardians of the Galaxy - Groot & Rocket

There is some contractual stuff with merchandising movie X-Men. I think both Fox and Marvel have to sign off of giving that license to companies. I think Disney is holding off on that so as not the help the X-Men movie franchise. It didn't work.

To be fair, I think the Spiderman figure issue comes down to one main factor.. a 1/6 figure in a spandex suit, is never going to look anywhere near as good as the figure in the film, let alone the comics.. and I say that as a Spiderman fan, well the first film and original comics anyway.
I am slightly surprised we have not had a few more X Men figures, although I'm not convinced there are enough collectors to go deep into the line (films can be very successful without necessarily creating a large figure franchise).. disappointingly I still haven't liked a Wolverine release enough to pull the trigger.. but I would like to see a few more of the main figures.. although I am fairly certain Hot Toys would go with a rubber bodysuit for a Mystique figure.. making it a no go for me.
:(

I'm wondering if Rocket Raccoon might just take us a step closer to a Chewbacca figure. :dunno
