How much do you all really save waiting on US MP releases? That is, if you find them....

I think the recent releases have been pretty fairly priced to take that gamble TBH.

Takara or fail for me.

Nothing, unless you buy from BBTS or another domestic retailer.

But given that there are enough people who do just that, I have little doubt that there will be many who will jump on a TRU MP Prowl. Unless TRU decides to flood their shelves, I don't see it shelf warming.

I know some people like to collect every single variant, etc. and I understand that. But to miss on the takara releases in lieu of waiting for TRU to carry them has always made ask that question.

I think that holding on for Hasbro releases is too much of a lottery.

I prefer the certainty of having my pre-orders secured.

As well as things like the color schemes and the packaging Takara's release schedule is also preferable to Hasbro's.

They've already released 6 Autobot cars with G2 Sideswipe, Wheeljack and possibly Bumblebee all on tap for this year.

Hasbro meanwhile are still blundering around trying to release one and even if Prowl is legit there's no guarantee they'll also do Bluestreak and Smokescreen or that Lamborghini will grant them a license.

I wonder how well the movie figures sell in Japan. My gut tells me that there are some fundamental differences in the sales strategy of Takara and Hasbro, based on what is more appealing to collectors in one place or another. MP figures sometimes sell in the U.S., but not always.

And it mostly depends on locations. I have NEVER seen a TRU MP I actually wanted at my local R'Us's near me here in slc.

I just play it safe.

A side by side comparison of Cubex Huff and X-Transbots Krank,

Seeing them like this further reinforces my view that the Cubex effort is the superior.

Krank's proportions are too "heroic" and nothing like an actual G1 Minibot, he doesn't have the proper "hood" that's the single biggest design characteristic of G1 Huffer's robot mode, the headsculpt is bloody awful, the visible wheels on the legs make the robot mode look a bit kibbly and less in keeping with the clean designs we've seen on most of the recent Masterpieces and the arms don't even turn into the smokestacks in truck mode like they're supposed to.

Apparently the plastic used on Huff is of a lesser quality than Takara use which will no doubt get blown out of proportion by the scaremongers at TFW who'll have everyone believing it'll crumble if you so much as breathe on it.

It's a cause for concern with Cubex being relatively new on the scene but I'll make my own mind up when mine arrives.

That Cubex Huff is tempting--G1 Huffer was one of the few Transformer toys I owned back in the day--but I haven't been able to find it at a reasonable price so far.

If prowl is being released there is a good chance other cars will too. I doubt it would just be the one.
Different company to obtain the vehicle mode liscenses from. Also Sideswipe was released MUCH earlier. He never materialised. We also NEVER saw Megatron at US retail.

Takara had a massively expensive lisceing deal with Lamborgini, that included them being REQUIRED to use VERY EXPENSIVE Lamborgini Made, proprietary paint.

I don't see Hasbro footing that liscensing bill.

I DO see them doing an actual Blue bluestreak remold from Prowl.

I DO NOT see them doing Wheeljack for the same reasons as ( so far) No sideswipe.

Running down the list of the ramining ones we suspect / rumored tobe in development.
Speculation based on what we know so far.

Ultra magnus? Yes hasbro
Bumblebee? YES HASBRO
Hound? Yes Hasbro
Jazz? Yes Hasbro
Sunstreaker? NO Hasbro
Mirage? maybe Hasbro
Ironhide/ Ratchet? Yes Hasbro

For me, it's Huff or nothing. Krank just looks ugly to me.

I probably should have waited to order Huff, but oh well. Hopefully there are no QC issues. Though I did order from Captured Prey and I hear their customer service is VERY good.

Been waiting a while for Masterpiece Jazz. Probably my #1 favorite Autobot.

Be prepared to keep waiting a while longer because he's not confirmed yet.

Porsche is one of those licenses that's previously been difficult to acquire due to the parent company ( VW ) being reluctant to associate the VW and Porsche brands with anything that could be construed as being related to war.

They were presumably OK with allowing Lamborghini because the only thing in their past are high powered sports cars and in their earliest days, tractors, neither of which are as potentially offensive as vehicles used by the 3rd Reich.

IF MP Bumblebee is confirmed as being fully licensed by VW then it would indicate that this policy has been thrown out and that the Porsche license may be possible.

Personally I couldn't care less about Jazz but he'd inevitably be a massive seller so a Masterpiece would be good for the line.

True. VW is terribly stingy with the Porsche license. I'm hoping it at least gets made for Japan. I don't necessarily need a Hasbro one.

DPrime,
I've not used them myself but I've read quite a few references to Captured Prey's service being good at TFW so I think you'll be OK.

karamazov80,
Yeah, it's OK as a reimagined Classics-style Huffer but it doesn't fit the Masterpiece aesthetic.

gunm,
Quite a bit of time has passed since the proposals for Binaltech Bumblebee and Jazz were rejected, and perhaps significantly the economic climate is different so the VW Group may be more willing to change their past policies in order to bring in some more cash.

If they can have Darth Vader in an advert for one of their cars then toys of their cars that transform into robots with guns shouldn't be an issue :lol

Stopped by TRU yesterday and they have two versions of Bulkhead, I really hemmed and hawed over which one to get. My big concern was that the larger one would be way too big to fit in with my MP Streak, MP-10, and MP Lambo. I ended up getting the larger one and am so glad I did. While he is much larger in robot mode than the other cars, his vehicle mode is right in scale. Highly recommended.

I just read on Kapow Toys Facebook page that their shipment of Huff is en route and they're expecting delivery around the 30th:yess:
