Re: Official Sideshow Batman PF

Yeah it is great for a homemade one. They have a couple others and they do super power beat down which are awesome too. Check those out if you haven't.

Re: Official Sideshow Batman PF

I can see them releasing a blue variant of this PF with the yellow bat-symbol in the near future. The catch? It will probably only include the long ear head and no batarang. See Deadpool PF.

Some people are dropping their orders of this for Keaton's PF. What would be smart is if Sideshow included the variant with the overall ES of the comic PF. Say 2000 Ex, 5500 Reg, 2000 Variant = 9500 ES overall. That would keep sales up just IMO and a theory. I think Sideshow made the mistake of a 9500 ES which is making people say "Meh, I can wait. He'll be in stock forever." Bats has been on PO for almost 2 years. :( I passed on him because of the ES but if they did a rarer variant of the yellow and blue and grey (my childhood favorite) I would jump on it and buy the variant. :peace

Re: Official Sideshow Batman PF

If I have learned anything is that comic version is usually better than movie version. One of the reasons is that it won't be picked apart for accuracy and comic versions are more open to artistic interpretation.

I am going to go ahead and give Sideshow the benefit of the doubt and assume that the obscene large ES is a true reflection of what they intend to sell at least in the short-term.

Re: Sideshow Batman PF?

The comic version is also the first version which holds extra prestige. First Cap PF, first Spidey, first Hulk all are sought after not only co they're kick *** figs but also coz they were SS first go at the character.

I agree with you. I really like the sculpt, but I also just really appreciate rarer things like the Ex or a low run variant. Bats comic PF is an awesome piece overall. I did PO Supes Ex but passed on Bats 'cause I just thought "9500 is too many, take my sweet time, buy him later if ever." Here's hoping for a blue, yellow and grey comic Bats at a low run because that would be sweet and I would PO. :)

Re: Sideshow Batman PF?

They'll get to that version no doubt. It looks like it's gonna be comic, Keaton then TDK PFs first though. They could spend years making Nolan Bat stuff and it'd all sell.

Re: Official Sideshow Batman PF

I'm weak when it comes to my favourite character. :( Will get the PF and the blue bust, and Keaton is a must as well. If they also do a Bale one to go with the Ledger Joker, I'd have to get that as well. Not to mention Catwoman and the rest of the villains they're gonna have to do sooner or later!

Re: Official Sideshow Batman PF

SS loses out far in terms of accuracy if based on film, especially if compared with Hot Toys. Safer if they stick with comic version.

Re: Official Sideshow Batman PF

They are already making movie versions. And I think the market for 1/4 is more than big enough for a franchise the size of Batman to make a lot of money for Sideshow. You can discuss and compare the accuracy of course but there's a lot of us who prefers 1/4 statues over 1/6 figures anyway.

Re: Official Sideshow Batman PF

The problem is that Hot Toys and Enterbay make 1/4 figures which are, in my opinion, better than Sideshow's 1/4 statues in terms of likeness and accuracy. It's all a matter of preference. I think the Sideshow Keaton Bats will sell no matter what. A lot of us grew up on it so it's very popular.

That said, when it comes to DC, I am sticking with the comics versions of these characters and passing on movie versions. There is just more imagination, magic and purer interpretations on the comic stories so I connect more with them. Same goes for the Bruce Timm/Paul Dini animated DC shows. I like the movies but I love the comics and cartoons more.

Re: Official Sideshow Batman PF

I agree that the likeness and accuracy for Hot Toys/Enterbay figs usually are very good, absolutely. They look great. For me it comes down to the fact that I don't like figures, which is why I will only buy statues and I think they look better in total and have more presence. We all have different taste and priorities, luckily there's usually something made for both sides.

:exactly: :goodpost:

Looking forward to the day when SS announces the BTAS collectibles.

Re: Official Sideshow Batman PF

Thought I'd post this here, too, from the WW thread, just gives some insight into Kris' design thought for the Big 3. Also the link has some of the concept art. Be interesting to see if any of the concepts become a Comiquette, LSF, part of a dio, etc

I can't wait to see a reveal of the actual sculpt in any kind of way.

In the meantime, I'm familiar with Kris Anka as a comic book artist. He interviewed with Comic Book Resources, posted earlier today. I had no idea he designed for SS.

These are just the SS parts from the interview but he mentions his part in designing Wonder Woman...

Didn't you also do some work for Sideshow Collectibles, the collectibles manufacturer? I remember seeing some packaging art you did for them.

I did! After my third year at CalArts I decided to take a year off and it just so happened one of my friends, David Igo, was the Senior Designer over there. So I was brought on as the main in-house concept designer, which mainly entailed me doing rough pose drawings. When a character has been picked to be turned into a statue, I'm the first line of attack. I would brainstorm the character and try to come up with various poses, costumes, items, etc. that we felt would be the direction to take the character. Often times they already had an idea for which version of the character to go with before i even come to it, or I would just have to design multiple versions of a character depending on how many costumes they wanted to go with, i.e. a green Hulk, a gladiator Hulk, a red Hulk, etc. So for products coming out now, and products that will be coming out for a few years, i basically had my hand in almost all of it.

I want to talk about your work at Marvel, but before that can you talk a bit more about some highlights from your time at Sideshow? There's some great work there.

During my time, Sideshow was able to land the DC Comics license, which was a huge deal because before this only DC Direct was doing anything with the characters. So I was part of the first wave of attack with a lot of the pieces that'll be coming out, at least in terms of the 1/4 scale figures.

Out of the gate, the two biggest characters to tackle (and to probably no surprise to literally no one) were Batman and Superman. With these characters especially, this was a test in finding something that we felt was a truly iconic pose, while also being something producible. As you can see with my Batman design, I wanted a giant cape, [Laughs], which was not something that could be produced cost-effectively or something that would be able to be packaged easily as well. Action poses are fun and allow for multiple productions of a character (Hulks), because this was a launch of a line, and such important characters, we felt going down a direction that felt more "god-like" was going to work better, especially for these two -- as well as another truly iconic character, which I'm having a lot of input on her and I'm very proud of how it's coming along.

Iconic DC character who is female and is third in line after Batman and Superman but you can't say specifically who... I get you, Kris, I get you.

[Laughs] When we started on the line, we were also trying to figure out if prints were going to be included with these statues, like the Marvel line, so myself along with fellow artist Fabian Schlaga worked on a Superman print as a pitch.

Re: Official Sideshow Batman PF

I'll take a superman print if they are throwing one in lol

Thanks for that Peedi

Re: Official Sideshow Batman PF

Re: Official Sideshow Batman PF

I am waiting for the Batman Legendary scale figure. To be announced. Probably the only LSF I would ever consider.
