Silent Hill: Downpour (originally SH 8)

You know what, that's such a damn shame to have waited all these years for a decent next generation Silent Hill game only to be fed this hot mess excuse for a game. After hearing so many negative comments about this latest installment, I'm going to pass and wait for the SH HD collection

Oh trust me, this is my favorite title in years, easily, even with these tech issues. The good far outweighs the bad. I know I am giving mixed signals here, but its really due to how damn good the game is overall, so when I run into a tech issue, I wanna scream cause I am loving the game

I did the same thing. I just kept running and running, at one point I just sort of spaced out and kept going. Eventually I snapped back to reality and figured it out. Felt pretty silly afterwards.

I did the same thing to a degree.....I have spent a lot of time just exploring, and they really pack stuff in to do....the bird side quest really has those little blue guys spread out, so you have to really explore.

Are you getting the Silent Hill Re-Mastered Collection? I'm especially intrigued with the all new voice over. As good as the original games were, the voice over was very left much to be desired

I am curious about the new voiceovers but for me, the main draw is the HD presentation in 16:9 format, especially SH3, which is among my favs in the series

Do you guys think we should just turn this into a SH games thread and not just Downpour? Easy way to keep it all here?

A tip for those of you who are just starting. After the kitchen turns into the other world and you run away from the red stuff up the long stairwell, do not keep going up. It never ends. You have to turn back around to go into the kitchen again. I ran up those stairs for 20 minutes thinking there would be a door at the end.

OMG! I wish I read this last night. I vaguely read about this part on another forum and so not to spoil myself, I didnt read the rest and I ended up spending probably, at least 20 minutes here.

Great game soooo far! Love it. Love the music also.

This one, yeah. Most SH titles haven't sat well with fans' in the last few years. Get one person that really loved Homecoming. I mean, it was 'ok,' and all that, but with this one, I don't think the pros 'get it'

Small spoiler, but there are a lot of easter eggs in this game: found original theme music, the entire Apt Henry was in during SH: The room, Travis's truck from Origins, a pic of the Samael symbol....pic of House from Homecoming, etc....awesome. Henry's apt takes the cake - chains on door and all......

Same here - I started a 2nd playthrough with normal action hard puzzles, and the monsters seem more intense

When you see the blue and red candles lit, grab a shovel - its a new side mission on 2nd playthrough only

Something I completely missed during first playthrough: The tombstone statue of the woman with dead children at her feet was the winner of that, "design a tombstone" contest, that the Silent Hill FB page held a while back. Kewl.

Not that it matters anyways, we all know how great SH2 and 3 are. Can only be better with updated graphics.

I dont understand how they can give a 9 to SH2 and SH3,praise it for the same things it slates Downpour for.

Course we all have fond memories of 2 and 3,and ive got em on pre-order. But aside from the story difference, SHD plays like all the others doesn't it? And the graphics are pretty good, so i just dont get it.

I beat Downpour last night.

It's alright, the story was good, the graphics were amazing, Murphy's face looked realistic, and I really liked Murphy as the lead. The combat was not so consistent, I had a lot of trouble controlling my character during fights, that needs to be worked on for future games. The game is rather short, you could probably beat it in 5 hours if you completely ignore the side quests. I did maybe 75% of the side quests and I beat the game in around 10-11 hours.

I didn't really enjoy the moments when the town changed, I thought they were rather uneventful and bland.

I actually enjoyed Homecoming far more than Downpour. I feel that the atmosphere, the monsters, the town shifts, and the scare tatics were all better in Homecoming; and even Homecoming wasn't the greatest. I do prefer the third person gameplay in the Silent Hill universe that these games have used, but I think they need to get a developer that can do it justice.

I can't see another console SH game for a long time unless they make a drastic change, they need to get a better developer or change the formula completely.

The game is nowhere near a 4/10 as ign says, but it's not an 8....so put it somewhere in the middle, you decide.

On the other hand I started SH2 on the HD collection and I am remembering just how amazing this game is, what an atmosphere.

My only real complaint with this game (besides the framerate hiccups) is the monster design. I inevitably compare them to SH2 and 3, Downpour's are just lacking...

I really like the Boogeyman's design, but when compared to previous entries monsters, even he falls flat.

I will be honest, I did not get the Boogeyman design. Really, he just reminded me of an Order member from Homecoming.

Started SH2 HD collection - playing with original voices only and having great fun. For 11 year old game, still holds up in some ways, its combat not as much. LOL

I'm having a blast too, I was playing it late last night with a tea at my side, it was great. Gonna do the same tonight.

I'm playing with the new voicework, and I think it's pretty good.

You can still play with original voice work? I did not know that. Fantastic. Still curious about the new voices though.
