Funny that people would be talking about such things at a site like this.

I was just thinking that a Christ from the Passion would be a cool figure, then it occured to me how that wouldn't work for teaching children at all.

Any idea on how many figures will round out the line? Not being overly familiar with NT figures, my choices for other Biblical figures would include:

Adam & Eve
Noah
Samson
Joseph (Egypt)
David (King and Shepherd Boy)
Solomon
Paul
Ruth
Mary Magdelene

..and what about the bad guys? Too bad we won't see them:

The Serpent
Goliath
Pharaoh
Jezebel
Herod (antipas)
Herod (the Great)
Judas
Pontias
Nebuchadnezzar
Lucifer

You mean 12" figures of classic film characters? They're reasonably popular, IMO.

This line isnt based on Film Characters even though Moses resembles Heston..(while resembling, its not him)...Also,since I contacted the company and was given much info on where the line is going....the 3rd release is the Apostle Paul...there are no movie films about him at all I believe, and I consider Paul a pretty important Bible teacher and Author of some of the books of the Bible.

They did Make a Samson Film (which was pretty good) and in the film he wore his hair in locks (just like the Israelites did)...while Samson's hair was long...it was not worn like a woman down, but his hair up above his head like locks...the film portrayal was pretty good (Samson and Delilah) and I'd loved to see a figure made of him aswell as he was the one and only Superman of History's time.

just borrow from the G.I.Joe-recovery at serpent temple Environment and you have the Snake

I would love to see David and the Giant Goliath

Let's face it: Aside from a slightly better headsculpt and accurate tablets, you couldn't get more Heston than this figure. Sure, officially it's supposed to represent the Biblical figure, but the outfit and hair are directly modeled from the film. So yes, it isn't Heston, but rather an unauthorized 12" plastic version of one of his most iconic characters.

A Victor Mature Samson would be great.

I am wondering how it can be said that this figure ISN'T Heston as Moses?!?! Remember the Indiana Jones figure called Relic Hunter? Same thing. Of course it was Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones but they did not have the license so it was not mentioned who it was supposed to be but we all knew. Without having seen any of the other Bible figures they are going to release we can't say for sure that this line ISN't going to be film figures but it certainly looks like it so far. This one certainly IS from the film The Ten Commandments. Since it is obviously unlicensed (otherwise it would most likely have The Ten Commandments clearly stated on the box somewhere perhaps even with stills from the film like ALL other licensed figures do) it seems the company simply chose the title Men Of Faith as the title for their figure collection. It is just a name of the series and does not appear to be any implication that these are ACCURATE portraits of the men of the bible just the men in the film(s). So far all we have seen is Heston from The Ten Commandments - the likeness and the outfit/accessories are accurate to that actor/wardrobe from that film.
Perhaps they are using Film Culture to help educate. Not an entirely new concept in todays schools or churches.

The Apostle Paul had a mini series - not a Hollywood Blockbusters but he did appear on Celluoid.

I will wager that even if they don't base Paul on a film portrayal they'll still give him a film star's head, like Matthew McConaughey or Robert DeNiro, rather than just some generic sculpt.

Yeah, you can see a list of many of the possibilities for Paul here:

Going by that, Anthony Hopkins in Peter and Paul (1981) I'd say is the most likely bet if any. If the likeness turns out well, I'm certain I'd buy that.

There are so many cool things you could do with the serpent in 1/6, and I have to say the GI Joe serpent is not especially imaginative - the serpent wasn't a belly-crawler until after the fall, so there's room for creative license with the figure, ie:

I am actually amazed how popular this thread has become...didnt think much people would be all that interested in 12" Biblical Figures

Maybe, but I suspect a lot of the interest in this thread is due to the film alone. It is a classic film and an iconic performance, irrespective of anything else.

Ooh I'm late so I just stumbled on this. I need to check these out! Moses rocks. I would name my first son that but I got a major veto. *sigh*

"Moses" is a great name. One of my favorite composer/arrangers was named Moses.

Moses Hogan (1957 - 2003 :monkey2

(his picture looks like it is out of a highschool year book from 1986, but honestly, his stuff is tops). :lecture

Sorry, OT. :lurking

:exactly:
I've never read the bible but I've seen the film so only know the character from that. Not that I would be buying anyway, I just wanted agree with Karam that others may buy it for this reason too, it's a good looking fig imo.
