Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming

:lecture I WAS enjoying both threads, until yesterday. :(

I agree..I really don't understand how things can go so twisted and out of control . I just think comparisons to the batman of 89 and the bat's of now isn't it a bit asking too much ? The only problem I had with Bale was the batman voice and now I have grown to love it. For me Keaton Bat's was a staple of my childhood and to sit here with comparison would do either of the films injustice . In the end its two different films with two different era's !!

I just happen to love them equally and enjoy rewatching them again and again !!

same here man, i do watch both of them frequently, it's just certain things have always bugged me about it (Prince! ... i really hate Prince!) and ever since seeing a more serious batman film they have become a little more obvious

bottom line, am i gonna buy this figure? HECK YES!
speaking of, does anyone know or have guesses about how much it'll run?

freaking HT is going to kill my chance to buy a house!

Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming

I'd prepare for them to be $200 and if they come out cheaper, all the better.

Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming

I really have no idea if I will buy these figures or not. Not a big fan of the movie, but I love Batman in general.

Hot Toys needs to do Batman: the Animated Series as the first releases of its "Animated Masterpiece" line.

Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming

If they did Batman TAS I'd get Batman, Joker, Two-Face, Catwoman and Clay-Face if they made them.

Oh i agree ..once you see nolan's films there are quirks in Burton's film that show up left and right . That's okay...just another time...the one that has been standing out to me is the height of Batman in 89. There are times when you don't notice it and other times it is plain obvious. Again to great movies from different Times!!!

I just can't wait for this figure to come out !!!

hehe, i hear ya, i can CERTAINLY wait and i want HT to take their time with it cause i'm gonna need to save up, between this, TRON, terminator, predators and their other stuff coming out i don't even know where to start!

i do hope they make a DX 89 joker cause he could come with SO! many accessories, not even funny, but then that would come with a price tag from hell

You are on the money..I too hope they take their time as well ..besides quality...I have CR Sup's and probably a couple of figs from the next iron man to deal with before the release of 89 Bat's. As far as the joker..you can count on that happening for sure. Not an opinion but fact since we saw a advertisement from Hot Toys that basically told us that they finally got the rights to Nicholsons joker.

Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming

Also, I don't think Kevin Smith ever said it was a horrible film. Just that it took huge liberties.

There's some bad blood between them.

Smith was critical of Burton because Planet of the Apes stole several ideas from the comic book series Kevin Smith wrote, most specifically the end of the film with "Ape Lincoln" was straight from one of Smith's books. Smith confronted Burton over it and Burton claimed he never reads comic books.

"I guess that explains Batman"

Also Burton threw out a Kevin Smith script when he took over Superman.

There are videos on youtube of An Evening with Kevin Smith where he goes into more detail.

huh, i didn't realize kevin smith wrote any comic books, and surely didn't know that burton's planet of apes ripped something off of smith's story

i used to really like burton and in the last 11 years he hasn't really impressed me with anything, sleepy hollow was the last good film by burton, everything else has bored me since vs. kevin smith who's films i have disliked from the get go, even though "clerks" is still on my list, i'm really not holding my breath on that being any good

I agree totally, i love both versions equally just for different reasons. Good to know im not the only one. Haha. :hi5:

Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming

What it basically comes down to is personal taste and opinion. There's no evidence to support that the 1989 Batman film is better than The Dark Knight just like there isn't evidence to support that The Dark Knight is better than 1989 Batman.

The way I see it if there's still this solid debate over which film is stronger, a few years later they must both be pretty damn good.

In Batman's defense, it has some years under it's belt. 21 to be exact. The Dark Knight has a mere 2. I'm not saying that The Dark Knight won't hold it's own for years to come (I know it will), but we're getting to an over saturation point, mostly due to online activity I think.

What could take years, perhaps even decades to discuss, like plot points, psychology, etc. has pretty much been summed up these last couple of years. Analysis and enjoyment of Batman have been taking place for two decades.

Don't some of you want to "rediscover" The Dark Knight a few years from now? It's a great feeling, going back to "old times" and catching up on things, while you still love, haven't been very prominent in your views or hobby.

Anyway. There's merit to be had in both films, but unfortunately some sides won't see it that way. I never seem to see any happy medium. It's always one, or the other.

I'll never choose, but with this Hot Toys announcement I'm in total 1989 Batman mode. The Dark Knight has had plenty of time in the spotlight, from discussions to collecting to appreciation. God knows from 2006 to, man maybe, this year I ate, ____, and slept The Dark Knight. I think it's safe to say I can cross over enjoy an old favorite for awhile.

It's nice to have variety, I think. Choosing one over the other is a bit boring.

Perfect point, agree totally. Depends on my mood. Sometimes i feel like watching Burton Batman, sometimes im in the mood for Nolans. They're both great in their own way.

Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming

And let's put it in this perspective, in The Dark Knight's defense.

It seems to me (bear with me, this will make sense) that older films like Raiders of the Lost Arc, Star Wars, The Terminator etc. are generally considered better films than their "modern takes". Modern film counterparts like Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Episode whatever and Terminator Salvation.

The first Batman is a classic, a world wide phenomenon that has been well received. Much like the other films I listed from that 80s era.

The difference though is that there isn't a clear cut winner between the first interpretation and the modern one. Hence this Batman 1989 vs. The Dark Knight debate.

To me, that's pretty cool. If someone asks me "hey, which do you prefer, Salvation or the original Terminator", I'm not going to think twice, The Terminator.

But ask me the same thing about both Batman films and I might just make a long ass rant why they're both so damn good.
