Lots of pearl clutching going on here lol

I’ve seen some complain about the “smashing Matt Murdock” line. They said “could you imagine a male superhero looking right at the screen and talk about smashing a female in that way”

At first I rolled my eyes at that comment but then I remember how they insisted on neutering James Bond over the last few films.

Seems like there is a desire to replace toxic males with toxic females. :lol

I don’t care about jabs at internet trolls but sometimes a show or movie really does suck and it has nothing to do with the sex or race of the person saying it.

I think there has been both valid and invalid criticisms thrown at this show. Writers should look at the valid ones and make some changes rather than complain “man bad” :lol
Well for one thing it's a whole lot less creepy and demeaning when women say it. Lol. And plus it's basically the equivalent of guys saying that they would "totally hit that", which last I checked is still a very common phrase out there.

On marvel shows without the guy saying being portrayed as toxic.

I don’t really care. Just find it funny that what peeps complain about they turn around and do the same.

I like how some people just didnt like the show yet continued to watch it to the end and then subsequently complain about it here, up to season finale.
We really needed 9 episodes? At this point, its just Inteligencia-level trolling.
Already started it, may as well finish it.
Yes, Marvel would never have the male heroes make sex jokes at the ladies’ expense…

One example from 12 years ago and another from 8 years ago. The state of this franchise and it's characters is completely different now.

But why is it less creepy and demeaning when women say it? A better solution is just for neither party to say it.

Maybe because of the prevalent rape culture?

Not to mention:

An estimated 91% of victims of rape & sexual assault are female and 9% male. Nearly 99% of perpetrators are male. 1 This US Dept. of Justice statistic does not report those who do not identify in these gender boxes.

Nobody saying men dont get raped but there is a pretty big difference in genders...a very wide margin.

I do think some people might be "hate watching" She Hulk

But I also believe there are people who are huge fans of Maslany and will follow her work where she goes, and are disappointed that show doesn't give her more to work with on a regular basis.

There were many times when the writing on Orphan Black was rough. But Maslany literally carried that show on her back with sheer will, charisma and being utterly fearless. She's a legitimate acting talent.

I'm a big believer if Feige had casted anyone but Maslany, that the flaws of this show would be far more evident to more viewers.

The way I see MCU shows, the shows I don't really like usually have the elements of a good show within them. Just unrealized. I was excited about The Falcon And The Winter Soldier. And then it just fell flat. But I understand that said "good show" was trapped somewhere inside of it.

Then some people will watch She Hulk for the cameos, where the show probably relies too heavily on them.

So if I can give Jessica Gao credit for something, at least the show is attempting to be "fun" But it's her version of fun and what she'd see as fun, which is going to alienate a large share of the potential audience. Where the pushback is coming from is the complaints within the show and on social media, which is a type of marketing strategy. There is a clear methodology to try to incite the audience. If you want to make a very personal show that speaks to mostly you as a showrunner, then OK. Ryan Murphy does that all the time. But don't complain if a wide section of the potential audience doesn't like it then.

The way She Hulk is being marketed online is inviting people to hate watch it. So I don't want to hear it from Gao or Feige or the MCU about the complaints and "fandom" You couldn't make a show good enough to stand on it's own, don't gaslight people into some kind of guilt for buying into your marketing strategy to compensate for those failures.

Yeah, but that was a different time in Hollywood. Pre Me Too Movement, Man Bashing, all Men are dumb and evil and toxic masculinity bad!!!! Might as well been a different century rather than barely a decade ago.

The good times, when it was ok to be a man and celebrate manly things.

So my main gripe here is the same as Jaws, there was no emotional payback was there? I do get that had they gone for Kevin's ending it would have been a drawn-out trope by now but to cut straight back to everything already wrapped up in a bow... I just wanted to see how that all happened.

It's almost as if, we can just watch the last 2 episodes and throw away all the other episodes.

She Hulk is now the most powerful MCU entity with how she wrapped this up. Imagine if she went against Thanos!
Yea, Thanos wouldn't stand a chance, purple loser... Also, the episode with the bimbo and Wong fighting hell-gremlins was my favorite of the season

Is any of that creepy? I can see the argument for Tony checking out Natasha in the boxing ring scene.

All the scenes we're discussing now are just people talking about consensual sex they've had though. Wtf are we talking about rape statistics? What is going on here :lol

Yeah, we should take it down a few notches on both angles here.

Matt and Jen was consensual and both are clearly into each other. Matt’s pretty happy with the hookup as well.

Agreed.

I know it's a hot topic however, both perspectives need to take it down a few notches in this thread before it ends with infractions, bans, and tears.

FYI: All the mods are now watching this thread.

1) Joss Wheadon, known seedy scumbag
2) Calling a someone attractive isn't the same thing
3) I have no idea what that is

Maybe because women don't have the same long history of oppressing and sexually demeaning men?
Which is still a double standard, no matter the reasoning, what happened to the mentality of treating others how you wish to be treated? She can't say gross things about someone then cry when someone says gross things about/to her.

So because *only* around 10% of victims are male it's okay? Because it's not that bad? Yeah, no. People should just not be gross or weird to eachother no matter their gender and regardless of statistics.
