Lol. I don't need carnage, just something that makes you feel like a kid watching cool monsters.

I don't even remember any visual moments like "wow that should be a poster shot".

The marketing should have been a sign.

And you're saying that when they literally had the T-Rex replicate the JP poster by walking past and briefly pausing behind that big circle sculpture thing, lol.*

Fallen Kingdom: "The Park is Gone."

Dominion: "The Magic is Gone."

*Yes they actually had one of the dinos replicate the poster logo like when the Batwing paused in front of the moon in Batman 89.

Spoiler Spoiler:

What would everyone consider their 2nd favorite movie in this franchise?

I’m guessing it’s toss up between JP3 and JW1, right?

My personal ranking, from favorite to least favorite, is TLW > JP > JW > JP/// > JWD > JWFK.

TLW and JP are interchangeable, but more often than not, when someone asks me, I'll say TLW is my favorite film of the franchise.

Curious why TLW over JP the majority of the time.

Age of discovery?

What did it for you.

For me TLW is lacking in everything that made JP a masterpiece.

I am in need of a rewatch though so my dislike is rusty lol

For me it's JP and JW neck and neck followed by JWFK and then meh to the rest (with JWD being dead last obviously.) I thought that JW brought back the awe and wonder but also had great tension, some decent horror elements and a heck of a crowd pleasing finale. JWFK is more of a guilty pleasure but it's short with decent chomping and stomping.

These films have decided to make the Dinos the good guys. It was cool when it was by accident like in the first film. But now it’s like the filmmakers have decided that the only Dino’s that can be killed are the ones that really deserve it. Of course now that I think of it. Has a human ever killed a dino in these films??? Only one I can think of was Ian’s daughter in part two with the gymnastics move and the raptor got impaled.
In JW a special forces guy shoots a flying dinosaur that is flying alongside their helicopter. I think they might blow up one of Owen's raptors with a rocket launcher too.

But otherwise your point stands.

They didn't even address the fact that the cloned girl is another Vince Vaughn type villain since literally every man, woman, and child across the globe who has gotten eaten by a dinosaur these past four years that they've been loose are all her fault since she set them free at the end of Fallen Kingdom.

JP > TLW >> JP3. That's it for me.

Now, JP3 isn't a good movie. The setup is silly and the absence of Spielberg behind the camera is painfully obvious; most of the film is shot so uncreatively that it actually makes the animatronics look clunky despite Stan Winston's crew being at the top of their game. But it does have some enjoyable sequences, the spinosaurus and raptor designs are badass, and the scenes with Eric and Alan hold up surprisingly well.

The merchandising was also perfect. Fun toys, great computer games, and -- here's the clincher -- I was at the right age for all of it. The late '90s and early '00s were a time for razor-sharp teeth, green goo, and caution tape on everything. That's my happy place.

JW isn't terrible, but it feels so soulless. The CGI is way overused, the single practical effect in the film (the dying apatosaurus) pales in comparison to what SWS did, and the characters are as bland as it gets. What little emotional moments there are feel cheap and aren't referenced ever again (the two brothers talking about their parents potentially divorcing). Worst of all, they softened Rexy's design and turned her into a franchise mascot along with a tamed raptor. The very existence of Blue goes against everything Spielberg and Crichton tried to say. It's just a far cry from what made the first two films great. And the merchandise was pretty crummy, so no redemption there.

Good thing they changed "Park" to "World," that way there's no confusing it with the superior trilogy.

Hunters vs. dinosaurs running loose in the jungle + Spielberg + Williams + SWS + ILM. In short, it's a childishly cool concept executed by Oscar-caliber talent.

Yeah, age of discovery I'd say. I was six at the time. TLW was the first Jurassic movie I saw. It was at a friend's house, on VHS, played on a tiny little TV in the basement, but I was mesmerized. I don't think I blinked the entire movie.

I was well aware of JP at the time. I had the Kenner Red Rex, and I vividly remember having some of those puffy stickers. I also remember my sister had some stickers from the first movie on a school binder. But seeing TLW was my first true exposure. It was my "Do you remember the first time you saw a dinosaur" moment.

I also remember how cool the merchandise was. It seems like any shop you went into, TLW was there in some capacity. As an adult, I tracked down some of my favorites in MIP condition (to avoid making a long post, I placed the photos in spoiler tags):

But having said, I think it goes without saying JP is the better movie. My personal ranking isn't necessarily which one I feel is better than the other, just which one I tend to gravitate towards more than the others.

It was somewhat subtle. They made them and designed them to eat crops that weren't grown using Biosyn feed and products, basically to create a monopoly for Biosyn, but they got out of hand.
I remember that but was thinking the plan was too obvious… I mean prehistoric bugs not eating the crops of the only company that makes Dinos. How long did they think they could get away with that lol

I thought they had another reason lol

You are right on both counts regarding the humans in JW killing Dino’s

Just watched that tonight. Wow that film is really fantastic after you watch the new one. Hard to believe it’s the same guy behind the screenplay and camera. I always enjoyed it but watching it tonight reminded me that you can make a really fun and kinda dumb JP movie.

And yeah that cloned girl is the worst. Everything is her fault.

I know you are not asking me but I am giving my reason anyway :lol

I was really disappointed with TLW the first time I saw it. I mean JP was life changing when I first saw that in the theaters. How was TLW ever going to compete. But time has been kind to the film IMO. There are some bad parts for sure. Something that the first JP can't say.

Tone and Atmosphere I would say are two big factors for me. Plus, Ian is the main character and JW score is one of his best. It's got some great shots in it (above shot of raptors in the long grass) and I love the main hunter character. My 2nd fav in the series after Ian Malcome.

The Raptor scene at the old base is fantastic (except for the gymnast part) T- Rex scenes on the island are great. Even the San Diego part is a least fun if not all that well done.

It's not a perfect film but I don't think JP is either. If I had to choose one as the winner, it would be JP because it was the first and no other JP film can top how that movie made feel and it has that perfect T-rex scene and a Perfect T-Rex rescue. Nothing in any JP film comes close to the First T-Rex encounter. One of the all time great moments in Movie history.

I am surprised you thought people might pick JPIII as a 2nd fav. I mean I liked it ok the first time I saw it but that film has the worst characters of the JP original series and its kind of meh overall. The Spino is great though.

My Rankings
1. JP
2. TLW
3. JW
4. JPIII
5. JWFK
6. JWD

Wow neck in neck with JP and JW.

I can understand that. Man the Dino action in JW is non stop and fun. Every action set piece is a winner. The film is fun for sure.

I do think I am on a real high with that film right now because it the first JP film I have watched since seeing JWD. I think if I just watched JWFK I would be singing that films praises also.

As for JWFK. I am looking forward to watching that again. Hated it the first time and found some enjoyment out of it the 2nd. Might be a film that rides that roller coaster all the time with me judging the film over how ever I felt about it last time I watched it with my expectations being either higher or lower :lol

I loved JW the first time I saw it in theaters. It was a let down the 2nd and 3rd and I could understand peoples frustrations with it. Its an Oscar winner now :lol

I don't think its soulless. Characters are solid and the FX overall are good to great. I think because most of the FX are great, the good stands out more than it normally wood. Indominus Rex makes a good villain. For me its far better then JPIII but I can see now why it turns off some.

But I agree 100% with you on the TLW assessment.

Also the disrespect to the trex is getting annoying. Do these people realize that trex had the strongest bite force of any land animal and was the strongest carnivore?

Not to mention giganotasaurous is not even the biggest carnivore. Spino is. It’s only longer then trex not bigger. Also paleontologist found bigger fossils for rex then giga. So here we got jp again messing up stuff.

I understand the first time the rex would need help with the irex but why the hell would it need help here? Gosh that is so stupid.

Just because the rex had little arms doesn’t mean it’s weak. Let’s stop beating up the rex to make this dinosaur scary. It’s very cheap and pathetic.

Yep. I hate what this new trilogy did with Rexy.

I can't believe Trevorrow did the exact same thing with her as he did in JW. Big middle finger to the fans.

Why not? He's the same dude.

If this wasn't a direct sequel and had a new group of filmmakers, it would be worth taking a chance on. But the game was already set. They teed up a terrible shot with FK, Dominion wasn't going to land anywhere great.

Same with the new Star Wars movies. Following TLJ is like catching a hot potato and having no one else to throw it to. Even if you can avoid burning your hands, it's still gonna hurt.

He gave us the exact same fight we saw in JW - on this occasion he just replaced the Indominus with the Giga and made it worse.

If you're going to commit to rinse and repeating what's come before you may as well commit to it fully. He had the legacy trio there and wasted them. Have Alan interact with the Rex again, Ian is driving a Jeep - why not have another must go faster moment...

Poor JP franchise never able to get its ESB or even its ROTJ (quality not narrative).

What would everyone consider their 2nd favorite movie in this franchise?

My personal ranking is.

1. JP
2. TLW
3. JW
4. JP 3
5. Fallen Kingdom
6. Dominion

I was so let down with Dominion, I don't even feel like I want to buy it to round out my Jurassic collection. I don't see myself wanting to watch it again.
