Love the title change :lol

Something I'll say, I watched a lot of the multitude of MTV stations over the course of the pandemic and found an appreciation for various music it's probably not cool to like if you're any combination of male, straight and over a certain age. In any conversation I remember having with male friends, female artists/groups don't get a look-in at all. This gives me an impression there's some sort of unwritten rule for us men when it comes to music - No women.

But **** that. I like Avril Lavigne. There, I said it. I've enjoyed her songs since she first hit the scene back in the early 2000s. Ridiculously catchy, fun and cleverly written stuff. And I also listen to Florence & the Machine. Powerhouse voice and great melody in her music.

Oh **** it went onto a new page. My confession is all alone and isolated here. Complete visibility. Oh dear oh dear...:thud:
Don’t worry you’re not alone, I’ve always loved music of all sorts by anyone, my sister influenced my tastes immensely so it runs the gamut from my stuff which is more Radiohead, The Police and Ryan Adams to Prince, Madonna, Kylie, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé.

Female artists, if the majority of whose songs are specifically geared towards choreographed, elaborate dance routines I wouldn't so much be a fan of - usually too pop even for me - the dancing makes me a bit squeamish. Britney for example. I'm not saying she's crap, she has a huge fandom for a reason, just not my thing and her stuff didn't have an access-point for me as a young man - beyond the sexualization - which of course has since been decried as a terrible thing (probably rightly). I'm younger than Britney so no guilt lay with me on that. :monkey3

My daughter is developing a solid musical taste that spans a lot of genres and it’s mostly male artists. Is Avril Lavigne still recording or are we talking ‘skater boy’ era?

You'll find me remarkably unknowledgeable about someone I claim to like - I couldn't even name her albums or say how many she has done - I just know she has an array of songs that I really enjoy - I'd say most come from her earliest time on the scene, so yeah the Skater Boy era. But yeah she is still recording and just put out a new album this year or the end of last year. A fun song called Bite Me I believe is the first single from it.

Just opened this thread and the first post I come across at the top of the page is an out of context confession from a-dev... hopefully a mod kindly moves it for him to the 'I love Avril Lavigne' part of the sandbox. No judgement at all SK8R BOI .... I mean a-dev and I hope for swift recovery to your musical taste.

p.s. only kidding ;) pre-pandemic days I played bass guitar in a wedding band as a hobby and we did a lovely cover of SK8R BOI that I'm sure would be right up your alley... female vocalist as well. No Kylie yet but we have covered Toxic by Britney before. As our pandemic enforced hiatus is drawing to a close I will request we add in more Avril due to her strong following amongst the Irish Terminator collecting demographic.

Justin Timberlake is my guilty pleasure.

Then again, why should I feel guilty? The 20/20 Experience Pt. 1 is one of the best pop albums of the last 20 years.

Justin is hot as hell so I agree! I prefer Future Sex Love Sounds but 20/20 Pt 1 is excellent too. Pt 2 jumped the shark.

Back to the collecting angle, and if I may shockingly show off for a moment. This item is worth thousands of pounds, not that I’d ever sell. It’s one of 50 special copies ever made of her third album with the KYLIE in genuine gold leaf. Rather proud of it.

Again I'm not very knowledgeable of his entire catalogue but there's certainly a couple I can think of that are very good. Can't Stop the Feeling is on telly a lot, I like that one, ridiculously fun song. Since you mention him I'll put him on youtube to see what else I like of his.

Bieber on the other hand, the other Justin, just nah. I've never wanted to seek out any of his songs.

By the way it took a second to figure out why this guy Rotfish was using such a similar avatar and Sig to Blade3327 :lol You had been using that name since you joined right?
