There's no Prime Directive in Star Wars, but what if there was?
The Empire violated it immediately via (presumably) hostile first contact and proceeding to build very large technologically advanced structures whilst occupying and patrolling Ewok territory.
The Rebellion than assimilated a primitive, pre-technological (by Galactic standards) indigenous culture into their military to help them fight - and die - in a war of which the extent, nuances and implications thereof were arguably beyond their comprehension, at least given the short period of time and limited information they were given.
Rebellion apologists will point out that the Ewoks chose to defend their sovereign territory against known genocidal invaders by joining and aiding the Alliance, but was it really that simple?
I can see why some were fussed with the ewoks after watching ROTJ, given their small stature and teddy bear-like appearance. Of course, looking more into the lore, ewoks are beastly and tough. I would like to see a proper PG-13, maybe an R film with them showcasing just how ferocious they are.

Lucas *did* intend for them to beat the Empire with low tech, but they were meant to be cute and sell toys.fantasticfrog

It does beg the question as to how many sentient beings the Ewoks trapped, murdered and devoured. It didn't exactly seem like a new thing they were doing -- and note that they hadn't even bothered killing Han yet before they were ready to light the fire (if I recall).

Lucas wanted the ROTJ battle to be Ewoks but realized that the sets would be too big. So he changed it to Ewoks.
