I think Phoenix Joker is up there with Ledger performance wise. Same with Anton Chigur from No Country for Old Men and Hans Landa from Inglorious Bastards. They're not on the same level of popularity or impact as Ledger, but the actors were all great. I'm curious to see in Phoenix and Todd Phillips can elevate their Joker to Ledger status in a Joker sequel. Phoenix Joker is without question iconic. That sequence of him dancing on the steps alone will forever be played when the Oscars do film montages. It's like a modern Singing in the Rain type moment.

Bale's Batman just never seemed quite iconic or mythic enough ...

I really enjoyed Bane... Up until they revealed Talia as the mastermind and killed him off like nothing, that really pissed me off.
You too RRX, LET ME SLEEP!!!

...I do see how that reveal diminishes Banes involvement a bit. But talia wasn’t the one that broke batman and wasn’t the one that took part in the to-this-day STILL amazing opening sequence.

All talia did was become a meme with her weird death scene LOL.

Still, reading Knightfall and then seeing how they ruined the Bane storyline in the movie in a matter of minutes was pretty bad, all in the sake of a plot twist that ammounts to that cringy death scene you mentioned, when Catwoman killed Bane in the blink of an eye I let out an audible "what?" at the cinema lol.

Agreed that it was a phenomenal performance. But we don't really seem him as the "Joker" until the end of the movie, so I'm not sure we really have enough to compare with yet. But there's definitely a ton of potential there with a sequel.

That movie is such a weird mess. I've watched it 3 or 4 times and can still barely remember the plot or how it ends. Lol

Both characters with many subsequent appearances keeping them relevant 🤷‍♂️

I don't see anybody talking about Arnold Toht
How did Toht come into this? Please, don't get pissed.

My point was Vader and Lector in their first appearance were both immediately classic villains in the Top 10. No legacy. You don't need legacy to be a transcendent villain. Popularity does not equal that.

Incidentally, I find it funny that you used age as a negative swipe in nobody under 30 knows Gruber yet you use 80 year old legacy as a positive to Joker. Again, both in most Top 10 Villain's lists.

I’m always shocked when I come to these forums and see the Bale haters. IMO and my perception of the general population his Batman is just as iconic as Ledgers Joker. I mean the whole trilogy continues to be held in high regard by fans and general audiences ten years later. Joker was only in one folks.

Most people I talk to about Batman IRL still haven’t even checked out the Affleck stuff and I’ve been pretty shocked by how many non-superfans I know that have zero interest in The Batman either. I think it’s kind of funny RLM doesn’t even care to watch it either lol.

At the end of the day Bale’s Batman still has the most iconic and widely known scenes and lines of any Batman on screen and I don’t think anything in The Batman will catch on like that.

The beginning was great, Bruce being broken was spine- tingling to see adapted on screen, the pit plot was bit contrived but still delivers on the message they were going for, Bane taking over Gotham was awesome, wish we saw more of it, the final fight was a mess and should've taken place at night, Talia being the mastermind and Bane just being her goon was a lame twist, I would've rather seen them working together, I liked how Batman sacrifices himself to save Gotham and almost wish he would've really died, Robin was meh.

I liked Bale's Batman but definitely think he was a better Bruce, the TDK trilogy is still best live action Batman story we have as well imo, it benefits from having a beginning, middle and end even if Ledger's presence is greatly missed in the final movie.

Keaton was iconic but Burton had a weird vision to say the least, unfortunately his run was cut short because his second movie was too dark to sell toys (dumb suits), Batfleck had great potential but unfortunately he was just thrown into movies that weren't Batman stories and we never got to see him working with a proper script, let's not even talk about Kilmer or Clooney.

Reeves and Pattinson could give us another great trilogy but only time will tell.
