Definitley getting the deluxe. The price difference is not much.

The people who predicted no one will buy the deluxe are so wrong.
There's £23 difference here in the uk between the standard and deluxe. I'd say alternate tentacles are worth the price of a Dominos

This was rushed out because of movie hype. At least they admitted it by saying that the head is WIP.

Something else I'm not liking: "Four mechanical tentacles (equipped with bendable wire)..."

Bendable wire usually isn't long-lasting. Toys Era I thought pulled an ingenious move on theirs but making them individual ball/socket segments. You can make them shorter if you like as Doc's tentacles have a maximum/minimum length.

If this was still a work in progress they should have probably waited and shown Tobey and Andrew first. At least with them they could blur out the unmasked sculpt like they did Dafoe and still have something to show.

I honestly wouldn't even be surprised if this was the final sculpt initially but then as soon as they saw the insane amount of backlash, JC Hong posted up saying that it wasn't final.

He probably got PTSD from the time he got death threats from crazy collectors over the BD 85 sculpt and immediately went to post that this wasn't final.

Surely it's a thick-enough wire to hold a pose, no?

Wonder what the tentacles are actually made of. Is each tentacle a single rubber piece with wire run through it? Or is it made of hard plastic, but segmented so the wire can pose?

Luke was definitely on my mind, and not just that one, but essentially every Luke. Then every Han Solo, ep. 4 Obi Wan, and Lando Calrissian, and that's just Star Wars. Hot Toys' has always been hit-and-miss with likenesses.
All of those captured the essence of those characters while having flaws. This looks like a Beatles impersonator has been caught in the middle of eating mashed potato by a paparazzi.

My thoughts exactly. Those were far from perfect, but certainly better than this. Alfred Molina should sue for damages.

This is a big concern of mine, especially since so much of the appeal of the figure is being able to dynamically lose and articulate the arms like they do in the films.

I can’t just take “not the final sculpt” as “this’ll be way better in the final product”.

Figures where the prototype headsculpt wasn’t final and turned out just as crap or worse, I’m sure others can add:
  • Farmboy Luke
  • Ant-Man
  • TROS Rey
  • Tony Stank

More over, what are some examples of the head sculpts actually improving over the prototype rather than regressing? I know there's a few, but that's got to be a short list.
