I wanted to do a compare/contrast between my Sideshow Tusken and the new Hot Toys version.

1) The very first thing that jumped out to me was the size difference in the eye tubes. The SS version are way larger. They both may be accurate given one is based on Star Wars and the other off their appearance the Mandalorian 45 years later...but the difference is striking. I like the larger proportions better myself.

2) The outer robe on the Sideshow version is much better to my eye and the Hot Toys version is too clean and not the right type of material. Again, it may be accurate to the show...but SS wins out for me.

3) The pouches on the HT version are tighter and better constructed here. Both have good looking accessories here. I'd give HT the point on this one.

4) The HT body is tighter and overall has a better build feel to it. This is not surprising. That being said, the SS body holds poses well and is not overly loose. I'd give HT credit here, but barely as the SS body (on this figure in particular) does the job well.

5) The overall paint work on the HT version is smidge better in detail.

6) The HT base is the standard sand base, but it's still better then the SS stock base. Pictured here is a custom a fellow collector did for my SS one.

I think overall, I still like the SS one better for the overall appearance. The larger face hardware makes him scarier to me, and the outer cloak feels more Sand Peopley to me.

Both are still great figures, I'm happy to have the new one...and I'm happy I kept my old one.

Thanks for the great comparison. The SS really does look good and I wish I’d picked one up! I like the HT, but it’s just too clean and neat. And I don’t trust myself to mod it lol Hopefully HT will eventually release an OT style Tusken.

Finally got mine open. It's a decent figure with a couple annoyances. The body they used is good and the hands with real wraps are nice. The robes are thin which is both good and bad. I hope the pleather pouches hold up long term.

I don't remember anyone mentioning how cheap the weapons and binoculars feel when you handle them. They look decent visually but it's very light hollow cheapy feeling plastic. And lastly the damn boots. Why are these not split cut for ankle articulation, the design is perfect to hide the cut. These are like cinder blocks on his feet, just lazy and annoying.

Not that I had ever heard....
Yep, I remember the figure receiving a lot of accolades but also criticism on the floppy body and then when someone noticed the "monkey arms", it could not be unseen... But still a great figure. Unfortunately, I missed out on it but picked up two of the HT ones, along with Coco's custom robes.

I see that SSC has this and the Shoretrooper grunt listed as "In Stock". Here's hoping that means third-party retailers like BBTS will be getting their allotment soon. I'm actually really looking forward to this one now.

When I got the first Tusken I took one look at the back of the 'dress' and assumed he was permanently sewn into it. I don't know why, and I don't know why I didn't even try to take it off.

GubernatorFan, with his custom build on OneSixthFigures, showed that it couldn't be impossible. So I tried this morning with Tusken #2, and the dress came off with very little effort.

Therefore I was able to put it on reversed, so the split was at the front, curing one of the biggest issues I had with the figure:

In hand, to my own eyes, it's a big transformation having broken up the solid line of the inner robe. It creates the illusion of a second wrap, and helps to reconcile the overly short outer robe.

It's a halfway house between the ANH bantha rider style and the Mando Tusken.

As it was before:

Excellent news about the inner robe, Asta! I'll be making that adjustment when I receive my Raider. Definitely cures the "dress " look.

It's a little detail that really makes a difference.

mine just got here. i like it looks good next to the sideshow version. i got parts coming from TA to make a third one. plus i got those tusken custom clothing coming from cocoboloboy to put on my third one.

Just got my tusken raider in and the robes felt plain and short for me. So I ran to joanns fabric, found some tan and black gauze then made my own. It is my 2nd try, I just drew up a template base off the stock robe with a bit more length. I plan on making some black ones to convert them to book of boba fett tuskens in the future.

....and it's here! Very quick shot out of the box:

HT-TUSKEN 001.jpg

While there have been some great shots and mods of this figure in here, nothing quite does it the justice of having it right in front of you (as is so often the case). It really looks great! The first thing I did out of the box was spin that inner robe/tunic around so the split is in the front. Simple, but really helps avoid the "dress" look. Can't wait to futz around with it some more!
