I can’t believe a show titled BOBA FETT had the biggest action set piece involve those unknown kids and not the title character AT ALL

Who would have guessed that the most hated character of the first episode (Twi'lek guy) would get one of the biggest action sequences of the series.

When I pictured a Star Wars show dedicated to legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett I always imagined him sternly lecturing the greedy local water dealer for selfishly overcharging for profit.

Another friendly episode filled with petting a Rancor and asking it if this is your soft spot!! Just go with it folks nobody ask/wanted a Boba Fett show just like nobody wanted a Han Solo movie. And for this I’m enjoying it!!

Fett should have worked over the goons so shockingly that the whole town was left in awe of him. Now after his embarrassing beatdown goes viral every Galaxy's Edge reject is gonna want a piece of him.

So I avoided this thread all day till I watched it tonight. And before I go back and read through everyone's comments, all I wanna add is...

WTF did I just watch? The girly and her gang are terrible. And that has got to be THE worst chase scene I have ever seen!! And there have been some bad ones over the years... Those bikes look awful. So dumb for the poor kids to have "new" shiny fancy rides. That seem to be the slowest speeder bikes ever made. I felt like it was happening in slow motion.

Well, so much for the Tusken gang becoming his minions. But, the girl and kid weren't there. The best part was him getting his new pet Rancor.

I still don't know what to make of this show. I'm so confused.

Respectfully, that’s really not true at all.

I don’t think there’s a single person on this thread/in the community that only knows about pre-Disney Boba Fett based on his appearance in the OT. The truth is that there are numerous books and comics written about him/with him that elaborated on the character greatly, all the way from the Holiday Special up through 2013 pre-acquisition.

By your logic, and only counting movie screen time, most of the characters really never go beyond wooden, 1-dimensional tropes. Again, I find it hard to believe that there’s really anyone on this thread that legitimately holds to the belief that Boba has just been this brief cameo background character until Mando/BoBF. It isn’t an issue of head canon, there was a plethora of EU and Disney canon that fleshed this character out before the series.

But to be fair these were mostly fleshed out before the PT and knowing that Boba was the son of Jango, the template for cloning. I get what you’re saying but not all of the ideas are compatible with Lucas canon. Plenty of good or great ideas from EU could be inspiration but the Mandalorian already established Boba didn’t want to be a simple bounty hunter anymore.

Not sure what movie people saw that has anyone thinking Rodriguez was a great director. Most of his work IS camp. Sin City is highly stylized and taken from another artist. The story of his break into Hollywood is truly the best thing he's done.

Even compared to other TV directors on Mando, RR's work is very uneven and hokey -- despite giving us an excellent BF badass moment. His movies are full of moments, but rarely a solid cohesive whole. Tim Burton has the same storytelling limitations.

"Uneven and hokey" Perfect way to put it. I'd also add "cheap". Even with presented with the same resources as other directors, he manages to make shots looked rushed and not thought through. The actors performances feel like first takes and his editing choices are awkward. The two episodes he's directed for BOBF are showing two things...last week's director was actually quite good and that episode he directed for Mando may have been a fluke.
You mentioned Burton and I immediately thought of that horrid unwatchable POTA reboot. Talk about a mismatch for material, very similar to what we're seeing here with Rodriguez and Boba.
And buck up folks...he's directing the BOBF finale too...begin lowering expectations now.

Holy crap I literally just watched a live-action episode of the Droids cartoon from the 80's.

I was thinking that this felt like animated SW of a more recent vintage, but yeah, a Saturday morning cartoon is a great comparison. Those are where absurd plots, shallow characterization, total disregard for logic and zero foundation laid for character motivation is considered acceptable.

Where else would you be able to find a scripted sequence where a character like Boba Fett basically tells his droid to stop bothering him with urgent business because he's too busy playing with his new emotional-support rancor?

But would even a Saturday morning cartoon be shameless enough to design that Vespa gang? I mean, if they ran a contest for fans to offer a cash award for designing the stupidest possible biker gang for Star Wars (and Tatooine specifically), they'd be hard-pressed to top what the actual show creators came up with.

Just the fact that this episode not only elicited such a sentence, but that the sentence is actually accurate, makes this episode a true treasure. I think I actually love it...

Why am I starting to get the feeling that Favreau is ******* this up on purpose. To teach Disney and Kennedy a lesson...

He did Mando s1 & s2 all on his own merrit with Filoni. The fans loved Mando s1. So, s2 they brought in Fett, made him the bad ass we wanted to see, and the fans cried with joy. After s2, Disney said hey, if you want to keep having full autonomy on this Mando character you created, you need to give us a Boba Fett show. Before you make your Mando s3. But, you need to do it our way, the Disney way. The fans will just love our Boba. Surely it will be received even better then your Mando guy. And make us even richer.

And here we are.... Surely this just HAS to be the reason as to why or how on earth this is turning out to be soooo bad. Favreau and Rodriguez are friends. This is one big inside joke for them.

Never did I think I'd like this Mando character more than Boba Fett...
