I appreciate honesty as well - and I think most people do. Though it is nice when people have a tactful approach to their honesty.

I had to bury a good friend's old cat last night. She had died in her arms.
And I was gonna use a Sideshow box but it was too big. The poor thing was skin and bones- a shoe box worked better.
And my arms, back and neck are sore today because it's not often I dig holes in the ground...

I usually say, "Wow, okay, so you're starting this customer service call with a lie. At least I know what to expect." then listen to them backpedal in gibberish. From there it's straight to the supervisor who, remarkably, speaks English like he was schooled at Oxford.
