Hey everyone! :wave

Quite a few people said they were planning to start on Starkiller headsculpts, so I thought I might as well do one too. I had been wanting to do one for a long time, but I didn't really have the skill to do a decent-looking human headsculpt yet. After my last few sculpts, I think I've learned a lot about head sculpting, and I feel that I'm ready to attempt Starkiller. My prediction is that Gippetto's sculpt will kick some serious ARSE when it's done! And I bet unsung's will be at least as good, if not better.

I don't expect that mine will turn out nearly as well, but I'm pretty sure it won't be terribly bad... :lol

Anyway, here's the first WIP pics that I already posted:

That was late at night, after less than an hour of work, so it was very rough. Here's new ones from a few hours ago. As you can see, it's looking a little more refined, and perhaps even more witwer-ish! :lol

The eyes in all of these pics are only temporarily drawn on, when they were taken I hadn't started sculpting em yet. I've done a lot more work on him, so I'll have more WIP shots soon. :D

Let me know what you think. ;)

Great start mate looking forward to following this :)

Well done DP, great start!

Thanks guys! :D

looking good and cut your nails their worse than mine :lol

:rotfl I know, I was looking at the pics after I posted em, and realized how HUGE my fingers were on-screen... And then I realized how much my nails needed to be trimmed...

Anyway, I'll have another update up soon, if my camera will actually turn on! :banghead

Now where are me clippers... :panic:

Man, somebody better start doing a Starkiller custom soon, cause the heads are covered!

:lol I know right?

Anyway, UPDATE TIME!

I did a lot of work on this sculpt today, I think it's gotten a lot better!

I finally got my camera working again after messing with it for a while, and after sweeping up the shattered pottery broken by flying fingernail trimmings, I took some more pics.

I finally sculpted the eyes, and also modified the nose, lips, and jaw. I also added a lot to the brow/forehead area.

What do you guys think of him now?

It's coming along nicely. I do think his right eye may be too close to the nose. A good general rule of thumb (and this doesn't always apply, but is nice to get things going) is that the distance between the eyes is the same size of the eye itself, and the ends of the nostrils should be lined up at the inner points of the eyes. Again, doesn't always apply, but is usually a good starting point.

Nice progress so far!

Yeah, I took art in middle school, and remember at least that much. I'm just trying to get the features down for now, I'm going to be tweaking them a lot once I have a starting point to work from.

The nose itself is also crooked, so that doesn't help much! :panic: :lol

There's a lot of parts I know aren't right at the moment, like the left side of his head is flatter than his right, his left brow sticks out more, and his mouth is slanting slightly downwards to the right, for starters!

I'll be tweaking and adjusting everything for a while, I think. But thanks for the advice. :)

And Natrix, if you hadn't noticed, I did in fact, trim my nails! :lol

As I said in unsung's thread, this is starting off great DP! This guy is a tough likeness to get down, especially those lips!

I don't know if you are or not but just a wee advice from my stand point don't be afraid to hack away at the sculpt and just "accidentally" carve out too much. I know there may be a feeling of trying to get things right the first go around (at least for me :lol) but you can always put more clay on. I sit and stress for hours on one tiny thing b/c I'm too stubborn to start over until I'm finally dellusional and cross-eyed and have to stop, cut that piece off and start off fresh the next day or so.

Anywhoo, it's looking promising! :rock

Thanks Gippetto! :)

I know exactly what you mean with the cross-eyed dellusional part! That happened yesterday, I ran out of sculpting mojo... :lol

Today I worked on just about everything, the nose, eyes, lips, jawline, chin, and the shape of the head overall... So he's starting to look a little better I think...I'll have pics up in a minute...

:doh

Scratch that update... I took some pics, walked away, came back, and saw my camera automatically shut itself off. Now that's normal, except it wouldn't turn on again... And I had just gotten the battery all the way charged up about an hour ago! So it didn't just die because it ran out of juice... Now it lights up when I plug it into my computer, but my computer says "Unrecognized USB device detected" or something like that... :banghead

I don't understand.... :dunno

Anyway, I'll try to find a way to post pics eventually...

It's all gone pears-up and tits-shaped... Since I took pictures for my last update, my camera has refused to turn on, no matter what configuration of power-button mashing, screen-flapping (it's a camcorder, you can turn it on by opening it as well as pushing the button,) battery-removal/replacement, and USB-plugging I tried...

Nothing worked. I think it may just be dead for good... :dunno

It's supposed to light up red when plugged in and charging, and green when it's plugged in but can't charge properly or is already done charging. It only ever lights up green now, and then my computer just says "unrecognized USB device detected..."

It's a real bummer, this has happened before, but I've always got it working again after a considerable amount of fiddling with it.

RIP Camcorder... :(

I can't even upload the pics I took before it died, because the only other place I can plug the memory card into is my printer.... And it died months ago! :lol

Don't know what to do now... :huh I'm considering buying a new camera, maybe even a better one.... But that could cost me 2 or 3 sideshow figures....

Anyway, I suppose I'll take some phone pics and post em here sometime soon. I really think there's a hint of a Starkiller likeness in the sculpt now.

Sorry to hear about that. My computer crashed a few months back, it was gone for good and my x-box died that same week. I was miserable until I got a new computer, so I know how you feel!

You should go ahead and just take some phone pics so we can see your progress!!!

Oh man, x-box and computer in the same week? That must have been terrible, especially if you really like to play video games...

Luckily my camera isn't quite as vital to my life... Although I am very sad it's done now, it served me well for almost 3 years, I think.

And I will take some phone pics of the sculpt, maybe a little later tonight, if not, then definitely tomorrow. :)

i know how u feel, my laptop crashed and i lost EVERYTHING!!! need a new hardrive or crap,!,frickin technology! when the robots aint tryin ta kill yah they keep crashin!!,lol

Which clay you use? And for this time it looks nice.

PS: Cut your nails :D :D

Thanks elar! I'm using Super Sculpey Firm, it's like regular sculpey (polymer clay) but it isn't as soft. It's really great stuff, I found out about it from unsung hero.

:panic: And I told you guys, I already cut my nails!!!
:thud:

:lol
