Glad to hear you liked the first. RE2 is even better. Still, definitely try to play the remake if you can. It's such an improvement over the original, that the original is almost not even worth playing anymore except as a historical note.

And yeah, I would love to be able to play the original builds of RE4. What we got was a great game, but those just looked so much cooler and creepier.

I think for a first time player they need to play the original RE...to go through some of the pain we did. Still a great fun game but compared to the others the controls are pretty terrible. Remake is most definitely worth playing!!!!!!!1111111111

Like most of you said, the Gamecube remake of RE1 is probably one of my all-time favorite games....it's just amazing. An RE0 was a LOT better than I thought it was going to be. I REALLY wish they did a remake of RE2, that would have been awesome.

I'm note sure you really need to play Survivor or Outbreak...they don't really add much to the canon storywise, but I suppose they are still fun nonetheless.

If I were to play them all again, I would play these in order:

RE0, RE1, RE2, RE3, RE:CV, RE4, RE5 (guess that's pretty much in numerical order :lol)

Except I would add Dead Aim in there for just the pure fun of it.

I played through RE2 and RE3 in the Playstation back in the day. I'll say that enjoyed both throughly. Now stepping a bit further into the future, RE4 to me was just disappointing. I say that being a huge fan of RE5. I bet I've played through RE5 at least a dozen times. The single player experience of that game was just phenominal! Since I never played the very first RE, I'll probably end up picking up the Wii remake later down the road, along with some of the other gamecube versions of the game.

That's odd, I enjoyed RE4 LOADS better than RE5.....

Same here. Don't get me wrong I love RE5 but it was way too short. On average it still takes me over 7hrs to beat RE4 with the Infinate Rocket Launcher and Tommy Gun were RE5 I can beat in under 3hrs without the use of infinate ammo.

Maybe I'll give it another go. I never finished RE4 (got to the spot where you have to escort the girl). I picked up something new and never put RE4 back in.

I'd highly reccomend giving it another try my friend. If you only got to the point where you first rescue Ashley in the church, your not even close to being half way done.

Yeah, if you are between chapter 2-2 and 3-2 you should have another crack at it, because there's a lot of story and characterisation to come.

One thing I enjoyed about RE4 over RE5 was the use of humour in it - Leon trash-talking with the baddies and Krauser's amazing line about Ada. Just injects that degree of levity and hope into what is an oppressive and seemingly hopeless situation.

Didn't really get any of that in RE5.

So, are we all in agreement that RE5 is the worst game in the mainline (numbered, including Code Veronica) Resident Evil series?

Somewhat related, has anyone here ever played the old Gameboy Color RE game? It was called Resident Evil: Gaiden and it took place on a cruise ship. I was so excited for it at the time because it was the only portable RE game and I was desperate for one after the decent-looking Gameboy port of the first RE was cancelled. Unfortunately, RE:Gaiden was quite terrible and had very little in common with the real RE games.

However I recommended tracking it down if you're a diehard fan looking for a weird curiousity in the RE franchise.

Now that I think back on it, I'm wondering if the Wii remote actually may have played a factor to enjoyment for me? I'm not sure if you can play the Wii version with a gamecube remote. Does anyone know this answer?

NOP

RE5 is fine. Not bad at all.

Well, however derogatory "worst" may sound, that's not necessarily saying RE5 is a bad game.

I don't believe it to be the worst game in the mainline series, because I enjoyed more than some of the other installments.
