Because no one expects the site to open up to the public on Oct 1st. It will more likely be the end of Oct.

Giving those who get on at the end of Sept will still have a few weeks to give input.

Well, I think a lot of us have come to the conclusion that Pottermore wont open exactly on the 1st of October. And we're kind of just messing around when we say it would be no good. Especially since end of Sept is so close to October, the month it opens to everyone. It takes away from that feeling of being special from being able to access it early.

That's where we were going with that.
