Grey War Machine and the Mark XLVII look really good together, better than the original War Machine and the Mark VI.

While I would love to get all the suits, it comes down to how it was used in the film. If War Machine shows up once, oh well, but if Iron Patriot is doing some major *** kicking then I will happily get him.

I don't know about that. WM and the MKVI looked fantastic on screen. We'll see though, so far pics can't say too much imo.

my only complaint is that the new WM/IP looks so similar to the MK47, its to be expected though given they're both meant to be stark designs

They did a tie in comic that is supposed to canon, Stark takes back the first War Machine and gives Rhodey the suit for IM3. Also explains where Rhodey was during The Avengers.

A serious inquiry as I do not know. How do we know the suit to the left is War Machine and not stealth Stark armor? The shape of the arch reactor?

That and also from the artwork we've seen of him. It might be from the comic book tie-in that tells the story from Rhodes' perspective during the Avengers event.
