The face mold was always identical.

Just minor differences like paint. The texturing on the Solo is slightly more pronounced. The horns on his temples are also different.

Correct. Same base sculpt. Less texturing, different paintjob. The horns by his ears do curl up more than the Solo sculpt.

figure looks dumb without the clothes but I plan to display with the full outfit as intended anyway so that doesn't really matter to me.
figure looks great at the end of that video fully clothed and with the hood over the shoulders, that's how I plan to have mine

Makes absolutely no sense to use the Solo sculpt, he’s 35 in TCW and 52 in Rebels. They should have used the TPM DX16 sculpt as a base and added a little bit of age to it.

The problem with that sculpt is that it looks nothing like the actor though. At least the Solo version is proportionally correct, if a bit too fatty.

Plus, isn't he only mid 40's during when Solo takes place? I do like aging the TPM sculpt idea, but I can accept them smoothing out the Solo sculpt for this. Characters and aging in Star Wars is just a rabbit hole I don't ever care to get into

But yeah, it would've been nice to just go the extra mile with a new Clone Wars era sculpt to milk the Maul completists with the versions too

Either this one is not moving into the retail stream as quickly (a small first run?) or people just aren't digging it as much. Thought there would be more reviews and shots by now. From what's been shown so far, it looks like a fair representation of that "moment" of the character's story and the media it was shown in.

Yes, some of the choices are baffling and unfortunate like recycling a base body with sculpted chest hair details and just painting over them, adding orange fingernails (hopefully whoever did his nails talked about the most interesting people...now there's an obscure reference there for the young'uns to ponder lol) and the attempt to blend the animated style with the "realistic" one doesn't quite gel. Probably doesn't help that the portrait is re-used from an "older" version of the character.

It looks well-crafted enough to add to my long-running Maul collection but I would like to see more photos and reviews before dropping the hammer on it.

Sneaking in a shot of HT's last effort with Maul....I really like this figure. There's a dark elegance to the whole aesthetic here that just really works.

Looking forward to seeing this new CW version out in he wild and seeing with others think...

That's what I want to see. That's what I'm thinking I'll likely do and put this ones sculpt in the vault. For me, it just fits the look better.

WHY DOES HE HAVE ORANGE FINGERNAILS?!!!! Has he ever had those before? I dont ever recall seeing him with those. Was whoever designed this figure drunk? Why would he need to wear pants, his lower half is robotic SO. MANY. QUESTIONS.
