I'm boring of TLJ talk... back to the figure (again)...

He’s got a big forehead.

The worst thing about this sequel was the way it changed everything established in the first film. Suddenly Luke is Vader's son even though Obi-Wan said Vader killed his father? Suddenly there's this new bad guy and Vader is just his lapdog? Suddenly Jedi can see the future? That's not how the force works! They completely threw everything from the first film away! And then there's this terrible ending where Luke just runs away!

Wait, I think I got confused about what movie we're talking about...

This thread has made me a little nervous about buying and displaying this figure... I mean, what if someone comes over and is suddenly triggered into an anti-Rian Johnson tirade?... Should I openly show my acceptance of The Last Jedi? Or just remain part of the silent majority?[emoji848]

The second you start worrying about what anybody else thinks about you or what you like, you got a lot more problems than supporting TLJ.

I’ll be glad to proudly display this figure because it’s Luke, and I do think he went out like a total boss. AND I’ll proudly discuss the problems with anyone that comments on said display haha. Plus I think the costume design is pretty cool.

Heeeeeeerrrre we go.

Just enjoy that fact that you like TLJ, and accept the fact that a lot of people don't.

ESB was a natural and logical extension of a (at that point) single story, directed by a world class drama director with no ego, and whose only care was to craft a quality human story (set in a fantasy world). TLJ had 40 years of preceding lore, plus all new lore introduced in TFA, which it blatantly neglected or dismissed... and for what?

Name one scene in Empire that is redundant or illogical and that doesn't progress, or add to, the story/universe? Then please try to explain why the whole (idiotic) Casino side-story - and Benicio Del Torro's laughable character, even exist? How did that (or most of the "story narrative" for that matter) add anything of value or substance to the Star Wars universe?

Again, please enjoy TLJ... that's cool. It's okay. But don't try and compare it with a film that is widely regarded as one of the greatest movies ever made, because you can't handle other people criticizing it.

I was being silly. But yes, what you said is absolutely true. There are collectibles for pretty much anything a person can enjoy. Collect what makes you happy.

I guess I was the only one who originally thought it was pronounced "Ree-an.":lol

I thought it was pronounced rain (precipitation) until I heard someone say it out loud. I was like, “Who the hell is Ryan? And what do they have to do with this movie?”

Going through life not knowing the difference between wow-cool and huh-wtf must be kind of interesting.:lol

I'm honestly not sure what lore was neglected or dismissed. If you were to say you didn't like how certain threads were resolved, that would be one thing, but that's a different argument.

If anything, TFA is the great offender in terms of "dismissing lore," since it required the entire EU be rendered non-canon. TLJs's greatest sin in that respect is probably the logical discrepancy introduced by the weaponization of hyperspace. The fan explanation that the FO ships had the same fractional refresh rate weakness exploited by the Falcon in TFA makes a lot of sense; it would have been nice if such an explanation was in the movie.

Name one scene in Empire that is redundant or illogical and that doesn't progress, or add to, the story/universe?
Why? I'm not making an argument about the quality of Empire. I'm comparing similar narrative developments and contrasting fan reactions to them. If it helps, sure, Empire is the better film, in my view.

Then please try to explain why the whole (idiotic) Casino side-story - and Benicio Del Torro's laughable character, even exist?

Sure, I can explain that. The Casino subplot is designed to advance Finn's character from a man motivated by loyalty to his friend to a man motivated by loyalty to the cause. The filmmakers correctly recalled that Finn's heroic deeds in the third act of TFA were motivated by his desire to save his friend, Rey, and decided they needed to move him into a place where he was also motivated by the cause of the rebellion. Benicio's character exists to voice some of the apathetic attitudes Finn had about the war and illustrate where those attitudes lead.

He's a mostly functional character, in that he exists primarily to move the main characters from A to B, but the same is true of, say, Boba Fett. I suspect if DJ had a cool suit instead of a stutter, there would be much less complaining about him.

There's definitely an argument that the Casino subplot represents a pacing or fit problem, or perhaps that the screentime doesn't justify the payoff. I have mixed feelings about it, but I think the broad strokes work pretty well, and ultimately if you take the casino out, suddenly Finn has no arc in the film and the larger themes no longer land properly.

Again, please enjoy TLJ... that's cool. It's okay. But don't try and compare it with a film that is widely regarded as one of the greatest movies ever made, because you can't handle other people criticizing it.

I can handle your criticisms if you can handle me responding to them. I will definitely continue to compare the films, though, so no dice there.

Ah, the TLJ haters - they're always derailing threads.:monkey3

Then please try to explain why the whole (idiotic) Casino side-story

NOTE: This was a rhetorical statement/question, please DO NOT try to explain it. Please.... PLEASE.
