Congrats on your marriage, MaulFan

Ok, so nothing fancy with the pics. It's pretty cloudy down here so good natural light in my home is next to 0. we're supposed to get some sun tomorrow and Monday, so maybe I'll be able to get something better then; but, for now, I hope this helps. I don't know why the pictures uploaded so small. I'll try something else next time. Any good places to host pics aside from uploading directly to this site?

My current Sparrow is a modified DX15 head with UU fabric bandanna. Like I said, I'll try to better detailed pics tomorrow, but I've never been good at pics with my phone and I have no idea where my old digital camera is that I took the previous photos with. If anyone has tips for good quality phone pics, I'd appreciate it (I've got an iPhone 8 Plus). Pics of my dogs and myself seem to come out nice and crisp, but I can never get quality pics of my collectibles on my phone.

Looks great! Yeah it appears I really need to track down a Enterbay head for that bandana...

And also congratulations Maulfan on your wedding! Wife and I are coming up on our 10 year 2021. In june.

Thanks, I am fortunate to have found the love of my life. It’s actually my second marriage, I was naive and made wrong choices the first time around, and my ex had actually ruined Pirates for me, I had to sell off my DX06 Jack because of things with her and I couldn’t bring myself to even watch the movies for years, then I met Beth, and she loves them, though for her it’s the Will/Elizabeth love story she likes most where for me it’s Jack, but she made them enjoyable again and I got DX15 and upgraded my personal Jack, so better woman and better figure haha. It’s been a surreal journey, but I couldn’t be happier.

I love that Pirates manages to maintain the fun spirit of this site, lots of collaboration between Freaks to better our collections, common passion for the material, this is what I love about collecting.

That's an interesting comparison. Which hat looks best in hand?

Just judging by your pics, seems like the UU/Enterbay hat is best. Which is unfortunate as I'll never find one.

I was married before as well. Was naive and was with the wrong woman as well. It makes a huge difference when you find the right one! Good For You! [emoji1665][emoji171][emoji170]

My personal favorite is the HT AWE hat but I do go back and forth between it and the UU. BUT without the fabric bandana, the Medi hat works nicely just like MaulFan’s pics show. It’s the most accurate to COTBP for sure especially once repainted. It surprises me that the thin fabric bandana makes that much of a difference as I have a spare DX15 headpiece and the medi hat sits fine on that
So with the UU, is it a full sculpted head with sculpted hair or is the hair separate like the DX? I'm guessing it's one full sculpt.
The hair is separate from the head, but it’s all one piece on its own. It’s a very pliable sculpted hair so there’s no restriction in articulation. I’ve actually put pieces of it underneath the DX15 hair to fill it up a bit as I don’t think the DX15 or DX06 are full enough to emulate the hair of the earlier films. The sculpt underneath is a full bald headsculpt with ears. It would be great for anyone who knows how to do fully rooted hair like Shane Poole and a few other custom artists who do great hair work.

Ok, so my next question, does the DX15 face piece fit under the Enterbay hair? Im kinda liking the hair on the EB over the DX. But if this is not possible I will mod my DX06 hair piece.

With the bandana, what did you use to secure it to the DX06? Is it just pulled and tied tight or did you use glue?

The DX faces won?t work with the UU hair as that head is slightly bigger than the DX. Plus the fact that you?d have to somehow create something under the UU hair to receive the DX magnets the right amount of depth. Not impossible, but more trouble than it was worth for me, especially since I still have the UU headsculpt I modded preciously for COTBP.

As for the bandana, I used fabric hemming tape. It?s very sticky but easily removable if I ever wanted to take it off. The UU bandana is in 2 pieces: the part that wraps around the head and hair are separate from the knot with tails. I?m using a DX15 headpiece as I like the ?real? hair bits personally, but I imagine it will be a similar method for the DX06. For the thick dread braid at the back of the head, I?m using the one from the UU as it?s better suited for the earlier films as well compared to the longer ones on the DX figures. In either case, be sure to remove the beads at the front of the bandana from the headpiece so you have a flat surface.

To really create the proper look, I?ve taken bits of the hair from the AWE, UU and DX15 hair pieces to have the right beads and jewels etc but that?s my OCD since this is going to be my only Sparrow unless HT decides to make a COTBP figure.

I?d love for HT to make a 1/4 Sparrow from the first movie but I doubt it since his costume isn?t as elaborate as the later films in the series.

Thank you much. This gives me a pretty good understanding on what to expect when starting on this.

I figured I'd have to remove the charm from the DX bandana. I'm also planning on doing mostly real hair as well. That's why I'm planning to use the DX06 hairpiece. Dont want to ruin the DX15 since it's already got hair parts.

Ok, so I tried to get a few better pics this time. I think this shows a little more detail. This is the best I can do at this time. Hopefully the image links work. Also, just FYI, I'm using the chest 'skin' from the UU on the HT body. I think it adds a bit more realism in hand than the hard plastic.

Thanks man. That looks superb! So you are using the DX15 hair piece? You paint the real hair black?

Thank you.
Yup, using the DX15 hair piece as my base with all the dreads cut shorter, then burned the ends to give a little more realism/texture then repainted them dark brown. Since HT says the hair is 'fabric,' I used a mix of watered down brown and black fabric paint on the hair elements.

-Bandana beads- HT AWE figure-repainted
-Circular charm with chain links (right of the face in pics): UU figure
-Thin braid and beads (left of face in pics): HT AWE figure-repainted
-Random beads/dreads specifically from DMTNT removed. Repainted and glued beads from HT AWE hair bits.
-Used UU dreads to fill out the hair under the DX15 dreads, mostly in the back (that pic wouldn't upload for some reason). Rear dread braid taken from UU and attached to DX15 hairpiece.

If you're going for accuracy with COTBP, you'll need to use thinned water downed dark red paint on the bandanna. It'll still retain the detail. I did it for my other custom Sparrow from pages back. The UU bandanna is a faded red almost pink like in DMC and AWE.

Damn you've been busy with this! Thanks much for the help! What did you do to remove the "x" mark on the cheek?

Oh yes, I was awhile ago, but I haven't but haven't touched it in a few months as I'm studying for a career change right now.

As for the 'x' mark, I just layered a flesh tone mix that matched the HT and just slowly blended it until it was gone on both serious and smirking faces.

Well I appreciate you taking time answer all my questions. I certainly have a lot of work to do! I appreciate all the tips and pointing me where and what I need. Should make this bash a lot easier once I source everything!

of course! if you have any other questions along the way just let me know, I'm happy to help.

I've made my own full-size Sparrow costume from OST (minus jacket, hat and boots), so I know probably too much about these costumes :lol but he's one of my favorite characters, plus he's a fun one to work on. The other HT Depp figures have been pretty great right out of the box (aside from Edward Scissorhands-wish they'd redo him as a DX), so there hasn't been need to customize them (at least not for me). I do one day want to do real hair for my Sweeney Todd though.
