Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

That's simply your opinion.

At some point, opinions become so widespread and made up of such a majority that they might as well be fact.

The same way that it is still technicly an opinion that "Citizen Kane" is a better film than "Jack and Jill".

Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

If their statement about it being canceled is true, then it's totally because the movie sucked. If it was a good movie and a good design then they would have found a way. Avatar figures were bound to be successful, which meant they spent as much time as they needed to get a figure out, since they knew they could make money off it.

Did you even read the statement? They explicitly said they have too much on their plate :lol

There's plenty of examples of SURE sellers that HT has inexplicably abandoned or not made
- Rorschach from Watchmen
- Ra's Al Ghul from Batman Begins

And BD T-800s. Though they stand a good chance of happening at some point.

Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

His stuff has done way better than Green Lantern.
Looks like Serenity made $25 million domestically, and Green Lantern made $116 million. Buffy the Vampire Slayer made $16 million ($24 million in 2010 dollars adjusting for inflation).

OMG who is a member of the community which did the interview stated the reason for GL cancellation was the suit.

"-The license Green Lantern was canceled.
>They had a very hard time figure out how to make the suit."

Everyone will have various conspiracy theories but we can only take their word. In this case box office receipts, schedules etc had nothing to do with the cancellation of the figure.

IMO a darn shame, I was really looking forward to it.

For a while there, the same could be said for Ghost Rider and Iron Monger, so, even if they may have cancelled it due to too much on their plate, I don't think that means there's a 0 percent chance that we'll see it someday.

Well that's my point really, if they could afford to devote more time to figuring out the suit, we would have a figure, simples.

They might just find enough motivation to follow through if we get a sequel.

What's to figure out? Its an organic suit achieved through CGI with some glow in the dark bits. How is that any different than Jake Sully? Just sculpt a GL suit with joints from the ground up and paint it pretty colors. The end. I don't see the problem.

If it is a matter of them not being able to figure out how to make the suit, I think that's good news. Eventually, they will figure out and we will get a GL. Whether its Reynolds or someone else.

Whose statement? It's not HT's, it's some punk in a toy forum's. :dunno

His stuff has done way better than Green Lantern. And we are still getting Buffy and Angel stuff along with Serenity stuff, plus Whedon has The Avengers plus tons of other stuff he's working on.

According to what? GL did better than any of Whedon's created properties. GL merchandising revenues can likely run circles around any merchandising dollars made from Whedon's created properties.

Whedon's properties were also well recieved, critically acclaimed, and built a large fanbase which continues to buy merchandise to this day.

Meanwhile you can't give away all the green lantern crap still warming the shelves of every toystore in america, and the film itself was about as well recieved as an STD.

By "large fanbase" do you mean the five people currently viewing the Whedonville forum? "Critical acclaim" doesn't mean jack if the viewers/buyers aren't there. Why do you think HT keeps pumping out Predator figures but has yet to make a single Charles Foster Kane?

They wimped out on GL, big time. It would have made for a stunning figure that likely would have drawn a ton of non-GL fans the way their first Captain America won over many who admitted to not being great fans of that particular character.

They only made 1 figure from Avatar and that was about as big as it gets.

You're wrong. Your mistake is looking at the budgets instead of ticket sales. With the exception of Avengers (which has a built in fanbase and wasn't created by Joss), do you really believe an Angel or Buffy movie would match $219,851,172 in ticket sales? Coming in at $38,849,097, Serenity didn't even earn a quarter of that. :lol

Now while you're looking at GL merchandise, I've yet to even see a company have enough faith in any of Whedon's created properties to even invest in that level of commitment to release products to stores like TRU, Target, WalMart, etc. Yes, I'll agree that a LOT of it is pegwarming, but how much sold? You really can't say. So your comparison there is faulty. If you want to compare Sideshow's profits from Whedon releases to DCD/WB's of GL's releases, I'm willing to bet the margin is as big, if not bigger than that of the film - in favor of GL. :lol
