Phil's customs - all 2 of them

I've dabbled in customizing at a few different scales, but I just don't have the talent and patience so many of you seem to possess. Still, once in a while I get a bee in my bonnet and I have to act. Casino Royale woke up my customizing bug to some degree, and in preparation for that project I decided to practice my painting on a less than stellar factory head - Time Wave Zero's Android Hunter. I believe this is the V3 head, and it came as an extra head with the figure. Blade Runner's re-release made me want to get the figure into a bit better shape. And man, when I see how much just a little bit of paintwork brings out a sculpt, I have to shed a little tear for sculptors everywhere.

Anyway, I kinda like how the head turned out, but I'm sure there's room for improvement. Criticisms welcome.

Here's a before and after, followed by a couple angles/lighting changes.

That's looks good i wish i could paint i suk, i recently sold my Daniel Craig, sculpt and the guy who purchased it did a great job in painting it.

That Blade Runner repaint is great! I can't even believe it's the same sculpt when compared with the original factory paint. Looks dead-on to Harrison now.

Can't say I'm a big fan of that Craig though, it's a bit overdone for my taste.

That's a really amazing repaint. It definitely captures all the drywall dust on his face.:lol Much, much, much better than the original paint.

Well, faint praise, that. :rotfl

And as for the "drywall dust", you're seeing texture from the paint due to the head being so magnified. To the naked eye, it adds a bit of texture which I like.

And as much as I think that's an amazing paint technique on the Craig head (it gives the skin a transluscent quality), I dunno that the mottled skin is right for Craig's Bond. But that is one sweet-ass sculpt, it is...

Wow, Phil! Amazing work on that Deckard, you can hardly tell that it EVER had a bad paint job. It's such a separation from the original factory paint that it seems to be another sculpt altogether. Fantastic work man!! :rock

Huge compliment coming from you, thanks. I think it's rough (I decided on the "third act", beat the crap out of version because it best hid my sloppiness), but as you back away from it a bit, it comes together in a way.

Here's the head on the body. As much as I love the outfit, Spenser's custom Deckard outfit on his site makes this one look sub-Hasbro "Universal Monsters" clothing.

That's a wonderful repaint! It truly is hardly recognizable as being the same sculpt as before. The previous factory paint job so hid all the good work of the sculptor, it would have been easy to call the sculpt itself bad. But your work does just go to show again how a head sculpt will only look as good as the weakest link in the production process. I look forward to seeing your Casino Royale work! :D

amazing repaint. Got the colour of the stubble and everything... lots of variation in there. Fabulous repaint

Thanks guys. I have never used a Dragon body before, but if anyone can help me figure out how to pick the right hands to swap the figure's hands with, I'd appreciate it. Also looking for any tips on treating the clothing to make it hang better...

Oh no I don't! That's a great compliment, but guys like Les have way more motivation and committment to detail than I ever could manage. I'm way too lazy. (notice I didn't bother touching the irises of the eyes.)

And I can't imagine putting the amount of love, care, and detail Les puts into heads that he's not even KEEPING! This hobby is lucky to have dudes like Les and Josh and the other painting gods who take commissions.

Hey Phil, are you going to do anything to the hair? i think that's basicly the one thing that can be touched up on. plus the irises like you said, although it still looks UNBELIEVABLE as it is.

I did some dry-brushing on the hair, but the sculpt locks it into that "end of film" look (see below - his hair didn't look like that for much of the movie).

Below is the look I was after, and I see today that I have to add a cut to his forehead near the hairline.

I was thinking of putting some gloss gel medium on it to make it look wetter, but it wasn't really bothering me. What do you think should be changed? Definitely open to suggestions.
