Well freaks, I got my CM Godfather yesterday.

As I unpacked it, I relished in the way CM does this so well. The Godfather collector box reminded me, oddly enough, of a coffin, lol. It was very appropriate.

I pulled the statue out, then the chair. Here are my thoughts for what they are worth:

1. The chair is perfect, absolutely one of the best bases/props I have ever seen. The detail on it, seems to me to be an exact replica of the one from the movie. I dare anyone to even find a tiny mark that is different. I swear, even the screws on top of the chair are facing the same direction. In this area, money is more than worth it, CM obviously did painstaking research into this part.

2. The statue: The basic shape and pose is outstanding, so is the hair (although a bit long), and the mustache is literally perfect. Where it fell short was the following;

a) The paint pigment in the silicon head was just too grey. I even tried using the powder to brush it up a bit, to no avail. It should be noted though, that under strong display halogen lights, the head looks much better as the shadowing begins to play a big factor and really looks good. But it has to be strong halogen displays. The "greyness" from the head is a clear contrast from the skin flesh tones of the hands (BTW CM did a perfect job with placing the skin marks on the hands).

b) The actually body of the sculpt was not "chubby" enough. I replayed clips of the godfather from that scene to be sure, and yes, it is just not chubby enough and needs a bigger belly (to CM credit, if you run your finger from the chest to the belly they did get a belly in their). Filling it out, as some people in the forum have suggested, is not an easy thing to do and not practical on this type of figure.

c) because of a) and b) together on whole, the sculpt makes the Godfather look like he is "ill". The silent strength and respect the Godfather character embodied in the film simply does not make it into the sculpt when pulling together points a) and b). It also makes the head a bit disproportionate to the rest of the body.

I am sad to say then, that I made the painful decision of sending the sculpt back to CM. Being of Italian decent and huge Godfather fan, I was hoping that this was going to be a great piece to display. The shortcomings of the sculpt simply did not justify the $2000 price tag. I felt it was a sculpt that would quickly depreciate in value, not maintain or grow in value.

I am hoping that in CM second production run of these they will quietly modify this piece (as we know some other pieces have been done with statue companies).

So I took some pics, and sent it back (well it will be picked up tomorrow).

This is an important note: When I phone CM today, the representative was extremely helpful in assisting me with my return. What was just as impressive though, is that he took the time to ask about my opinion of the sculpt, and noted the comments I have made in this thread. He took the comments not as negative criticism, but instead a way to improve CM. I cannot say enough great things about this company.

This will make me a return customer to add to my Cinemaquette outstanding pieces T-850 Arnold, TX, Endoskeleton, Alien, and soon hopefully Predator.

I thank you for your honest opinion man. Being born in Agrigento,Sicily, an hours drive from Corleone, i always hold Il Padrino in the highest regard. Having seen the movie upwards of 200 times, the likeness just isnt there. You were right saying that your piece just dosent convey the respect the godfather should, and i find it hard to believe Luca Brasi would be shaking infront of that man. Photos are a big part of making a piece seem attractive, true, but sometimes the piece just dosent cut the mustard even to owners whove invested a nice piece of bread into the piece and have every reason to like it. Not the end of the known world. We have opinions on the photos both positive and negative, and now have another owners opinion that was just plain dissatisfied. I am happy to hear that at the price, the customer service was top notch, as i would have expected. GL on the return and hopefully they modify this piece accordingly for those still interested in purchasing one.

To me it looks fine. Doesn't deserve all the bashing its received.

I agree with u

The hair needs a cut, but I don't see anything wrong with the body. Perhaps if he were standing it would be more noticeable.

I also don't think CM will make any changes to the body as this would require re-tailoring the piece.

The piece has gone through a couple of years of development and approval. If changes were going to be made I think they would have done them by now.

My review was not to bash this piece. Rather, it was to simply put in perspective the $2000 for what you are getting. If you feel that it is worth the $2000, then by all means go out and purchase it. CM has them in stock and ready to go.

Of course, things like long hair are easy to correct. However, the image, what the Godfather conveys, in this case a strong, traditional sense of respect and "healthy" fear if you will is not there, again, IMO.

Now, this is not to understate the amount of work CM has put into it. The licensing, the hours in chasing down the people to get this ok'd, the design staff, research, packing, and gazillion other things is also involved in this price tag. This is NOT a reflection of the CM company, they are still, to say the least OUTSTANDING company with OUTSTANDING people, such as George, Scott, and Takomi.

Like I said, if you see something I am not, put down the cash and buy one. I certainly would have paid half that price for it, shipped.

HdoubleD, you got exactly what I was saying about the sculpt, and the great customer service part. Would I have bought it for half the price? Probably. Thanks for you comments.

Thanks for these Enz - looks cracking.

It is also worth checking out Asaka's wonderful pictures. It just looks so much more realistic than anything else being offered.

The too long hair does detract from the piece and may contribute to the "illness" look. The hair makes him look a little like someone's neglected grandpa in a nursing home.

But looking straight on so the hair length isn't noticeable I think the likeness is pretty spot on.

Nice looking piece. Congrats to all who own this guy. He's a bit out of my price range, but I'm not such a fan either.

Check this out, I was just messing around and made a cigar lit for the godfather, I made it from a real gigar rolled up a piece of tobacco and painted it, I think it came out prety good, I may just leave him like this for a while, I know it is not screen accurate, I dont even think he smoke cigars in the movie, but again just for fun..

All the pics so far look great to me. Its too pricey and not the kind of thing I would buy but imo its great quality, it looks that way to me anyway but I havn't seen one in person.

I have deleted posts in this thread. Lets keep it on topic and civil please.
Many thanks

I love how it looks but to set the price anywhere near the Preddie CM's is a joke & a bad one cause it's not much bigger than a PF if at all, I'd love to own it too:mad:

If you look at the face from the side, it is a good likeness, but only from the side. The front is way off. Still the amount of work that goes into the piece is amazing. the skin, hair, clothing etc... But damn, all the trouble that was put into making these and a bad likeness, what a disappointment!! I probably would have gotten one if it wasnt for the likenss issue.

Be careful my friend of all pieces to be "honest" about this is the one that will get you a lashing :D Consider yourself warned and God be with you son. :D
