They probably used foam because Polystone would weigh too much.

There just no way that the base would be strong enough to support a polystone figure on the speeder.

...at least that's my "theory."

The bike is cast in heavy-weight polystone and white metal, and is mounted on a sturdy support rod.

I guess, Both!

I asked at C4 and the bike itself will be mixed media (Poly, Metals, some vinyl, etc). The blanket on the back is actually made out of folded cloth. It's really a fantastic piece.

Any longer parts of the bike will be metal, to prevent drooping. That's also why the base support rod has to be metal (and not clear plastic as some have suggested)... it has to be able to support the weight of this thing.
