It is indeed lens distortion and posture. To all those saying it’s too big, just take measurements for goodness sakes. Even compared to to real Heath (had to check due to this insane, insanely good I mean, funny and psychologicaly interesting thread) proportions are there, take a ruler and compare it with a Heath Ledger Joker full body frame.
I studied cinematography and know quite a bit about lenses, distortion, eye perception, and how our mind screws up. Best “easy” way to explain what’s going on is this:
BTW, that guy is equally realistic at both 16 and 200mm. Do you know thad dude or dudette you saw online, how they never (ever, ever, ever) look like they did on Instagram? Same thing here. For big, real people, we look better at a distance with a 20-35mm (hence Instagram). For smaller things, it will look weird if you are used to cinema look, which is almost always above 50mm. And guess what? TDK was mostly filmed with a 50mm and an 80mm lens on medium format, other lenses used were a 110 and a 180.
And if anyone of you is thinking “Ok, then we should just take a pic of the 1/6 figure with a 50mm and that would be it”… well no. Distance matters, lens quality matters… Are you bored already? Just wait until you get the d… thing, you’ll be happy, believe me. The day I get mine (if that day ever comes I mean, I still can’t believe that thing will make it to my little island) I’ll try to be as scientific as possible to show you its true proportions.
