It's all about the paint and detail for me. As long as it looks good I wouldn't even mind if they used vinyl for dio pieces. The material (and whether it's "perceived" as more valuable because of the weight) isn't nearly as important to me as the look of the piece. Plus, I've broken enough polystone in my life that I certainly wouldn't mind lighter, less fragile materials being used!

In what universe does this....

Such an odd choice to include that head sculpt with this version of the character when he doesn't even come with the correct outfit to go with it.

Hmm, they seem to have gone for a classic wicked witch of the west approach and made all his features very long, thin and sharp. The gaunt, emaciated cheeks and hollowed out eyes are quite baffling.
If they just widened that sculpt a bit, it would probably be closer.

Bilbo’s actual features transforming never made any sense to me anyway. The one ring warped Sméagol into Gollum over a long period of time and the nine rings created the Nazgul but those were permanent changes brought on by long term exposure. An enhanced, crazed expression would have been good enough but Bilbo’s jagged, rotten teeth was a touch too far.

Yep, personally not digging the angry face. Maybe Asmus could offer a smiling face upgrade down the track.
I’ll still be picking this up though. The regular face looks good and their tailoring is always well done.

The angry face will never leave the box.

I couldn't find the expected release date.
Yep, as I said earlier, it will never see the light of day! God knows what Asmus were thinking doing that head. Still want a Bag End diorama piece though. So come on Asmus make it happen and it will totally cement my undying loyalty - Too much? - probably, but nothing wrong with a bit of creeping!

Well this is a stretch because I always thought it was a weird clunky scene. We know the One ring let’s you see into the spirit world so maybe it was a vision of Bilbo or what Bilbo could become. Think of it as the Dark Rey scene in TROS complete with sharp nasty teeth lol.

I refuse to make any connections between LOTR and TROS- but I see what you’re getting at.
If I can rationalise it as something only Frodo would see because he’s wearing the ring then it makes better sense.

The ring can have imprinted onto Bilbo and what we saw was the remnant essence of Sauron’s spirit driving Bilbo to reclaim it.

The angry face will never leave the box.
They’re both angry!

Yeah the alternate sculpt is a bit of an odd choice, especially as some have already said it doesn’t match the outfit he is wearing…a barrel for him to stand on would have been a better choice IMO. Still, it looks great and I am still looking forward to this one, as Bilbo is one of my favourite characters….my retailer has an end of June ship date so fingers crossed it stays that way. 🤞

Exactly. That stern look just doesn't capture Bilbo, in general.
It looks constipated, would have much preferred a light hearted sculpt. If the sculpt were better I’d love to have bookend with the other Bilbo. If @Asmus could offer a third sculpt that reflects this, I’d buy!
