Huge collection but no idea what to do with it..

Hi there,

To cut a long story short, I have recently inherited a 30 year collection from my cousin who sadly passed away.

The collection includes a LOT of blue rays and dvds c.d.s, comics, Sci Fi magazines, figures, posters and more. I'm now in a position where I have to start moving it on, there isn't enough room in my house to store it all and my uncle wants it gone. So, I've started at the beginning with some collectors book on ebay.

Welcome to the forum and sorry about the loss of your cousin.

eBay is a good place to start while you build a rapport here as a trustworthy member/seller since you can sell anything and everything there. Another option would be to take the comic book lots and small figures to a few local comic book shops and see what they'll offer you. Craigslist wouldn't be a bad option for locals in your area that may be looking for a deal too.

Sorry for the loss of your cousin, one.

In regards to the comics, I'd recommend selling them for whatever the comic book store will pay. I recently sold my old collection for $50 to my LCS, just b/c I felt it was time to stop storing them (don't even need the space). I knew going in about what they'd offer, so I wasn't disappointed, but the clerk explained it this way. Back when I was buying, comics didn't have as much competition for leisure time as they do now. Online stores also were in their infancy, so people relied on comic book stores to get back issues. It might take someone a long time to fill holes in their collection, so even issues that weren't mint had some value. Now people can just go online and grab entire runs complete for cheap, so unless the older issues are mint, they're basically worthless (unless super rare or whatnot). They're also super plentiful. Situation is same for my CD collection. I probably paid $10k+ for them over the years (used to buy a lot of imports, too, at the time) but was offered only .10 - .25 cents each, regardless of 'rarity' (I've digitized the collection to hard drive with back-up). Couldn't bring myself to sell them at that price but reality is they're worthless, too. Anyway, that made sense to me, so thought I'd share it.

Without knowing what you have it's tough to know the best way to sell the collection. Comics are tough to get any money on anymore unless you've got key issues in great condition. I've got 7000 of them stored and the vast majority of them will never get what any price guide says they're "worth". Unless you want to keep them I'd say get whatever you can for them and be done with it. Some of the other collectibles may fall into the same unfortunate fate as the comics and some may be worth a decent price. Sounds like you've got a lot of research to do if you want to maximize the profit on what you can.
