Yeah, Takara's Magnus is in a class all by its own in terms of other Magnus figures IMO, though obviously there are some issues. Nothing comes even close to looking as good.

For sure. He's far from perfect, but as close as you'll ever get.

As a Magnus fan, I feel lucky to have such masterpiece on my shelf.

Sorry, but that is your opinion. I prefer everything on the Takara version than the KFC. Only thing that bothers me is the panel behind the legs which could have been made to fold on itself.

But for my taste, the KFC is too skinny.

Of course it's my opinion, I don't use this thread to speak as some kind of proxy for someone else :lol

I wouldn't want MP22 OR Stack in my collection even if I liked Ultra Magnus as a character.

very impressed with how solid and sturdy the dx9 invisible turned out. scales really well w/ the rest of my MP line.

I've still got Invisible, Bumblebee, and Soar left to arrive - I think Invis is a good holdover but MMC's Sphinx has engineering that looks loads better.

So I've opened everything I've gotten so far - I know a lot on here don't like it but wow, I LOVE Magnus. It's not perfect but none of these are, and he is just so massive and powerful looking (and well made!) that I couldn't help but feel giddy.

After that, I'd say Scoria (Slag) has impressed me a ton - hope all my 3rd party purchases are built like this. Also really like Smokescreen and Sideswipe/Red Alert. Wheeljack, meh, the transformation kind of annoyed me.

I'd put the Decipticons I got (Soundwave and Starscream) at the bottom of my list. Not really happy with Starscream's robot mode sturdiness (he doesn't really lock in too well) and Soundwave's overall heft. He feels kinda cheap.

You are certainly not alone. A lot of us LOVE Magnus. Yes, not. Perfect, but as close to perfection as one could've ever dreamed of.

And if you are a fan of the character (or the G1 Toy) then even better.

Congrats on your purchases!

What kind of differences are between invisible and sphinx? Im curious bc i really want a mp scale mirage in my collection and im not sure if i should just get invisible now or wait for sphinx. Just curious on what the differences are since they look exactly the same?

Legs look very different (bigger on Sphinx) - the engineering on how the wheels fold in on Sphinx from car to Robot in his upper half is complete different. Head is very different, etc.

Really, they look like two totally different takes on the character. I'm sure corsair can point out more - there was a good comparison shot over at TFW that showed all the differences.

Can decide on Invisible or not..

Yeah, me neither.

He seems REALLY skinny - too much like the old Classics mode in that regard. Doesn't really match the cartoon proportions at all. The chrome is a bit much, too. I was considering it for a while, but having written this, I now think I'll be passing on this guy. :)

Got My UM yesterday and it sure looks rather cool. There are some minor stuff, like the fact that he feels a bit hollow and light, but this is most likely due to his transformation and alt mode. The transformation itself is rather painless operation and they actually managed to hide all that back stuff rather well, considering that the truck cab forms his whole back section. Magnus also has a bit thick and stubby looking legs, but it is not that bad. At least he can stand really firmly. But in any case I like it. I think these are just minor issues and matter of taste.

I really wish they'd make another sharkticon figure. One based on the original design but with added articulation.
Also I believe that digibash of the insecticons is actually based on customs that the artist was working on.
I saw them years ago on sector70.com. I believe Wheeljack made a few too. The guys on that forum are really talented.

Not a bad looking Astrotrain.....

Car modes are both excellent. It's the robot modes that I think differ in quality.

As DPrime says Invisible's robot mode looks too similar to Classics Mirage and that doesn't fit with the Masterpiece aesthetic. It's too scrawny and the all important headsculpt is poor. I've seen it displayed with Hasui's Autobot cars and it sticks out for the wrong reasons.

It's a nice toy, but no Masterpiece.

This was the picture that sold me on Sphinx,

Sphinx is chunkier, the headsculpt appears to be on a par with Hasui's and to my eye will look perfectly at home with official Autobot cars unless MMC screw up the final coloring.

Astrotrain looks like another miss, I have seen customs that nail the MP aesthetic to a greater degree.

why was the most recent skywarp $200 at retail? I mean...he's just a repaint and he's not really an EXTREMELY popular character so why was he so much?
