To my eye what throwing of the ht version is the width of the brow on the dome isn't wide enough
Why preorder? This is like the Stormtrooper... there will be thousands. Plenty by the time it ships. Plenty for months and months. Even if they make fewer, the prices are making fewer buyers so there will be plenty.
They'll make a ton.
Yeah..Oh right, that's why it's better - it's not Sideshow...
Well, I (as many others no doubt) honestly thought they'd at least try to make him shorter to some substantial degree. I was wrong.Didn't you say a bunch of times how HT would never eff up the height? But now it's something you can compromise on since it's not SSC.
Great photo comp. Go with the worst possible HT pic you can find.Holy ****, I was thinking $275.
Even with a coupon, it's $300 with shipping. Sheesh.
And he doesn't look all that impressive here...
President of the HYPE club. It's pretty much a $300 Hasblow figure.
Is that actually what he meant? I thought he was just being facetious. It is exactly that.
"Keep releasing inaccurate product but make it "good enough", the suckers will buy it.. and then on the tenth figure we'll give them the real deal."
~Hasbro mission statement
It definitely doesn't look like 1977 Vader.Vader... I think it's pretty much confirmed now that there is some sort of LFL revisionism going on. Lucas probably feels the ANH suit was shameful and left rules behind about what could be recreated and what not. I just can't believe HT would miss that many details that make the ANH look so unique. Height I suspect is HT's mistake but it wouldn't surprise me if LFL will simply not approve a rough Vader for production. Guess we'll wait and see how this comes out.
If you're talking useless trinkets - sure. Till we can compare the actual base figures on their own merits - in hand, your point is moot.Funny how Sideshow gave us more for less.
There are obvious differences, but if you can't tell.. no need to worry about them I guess. Enjoy the SSC one.Same with HT's Stormtrooper, they don't seem to look better or different than the SS versions.
Put the tunic robe underneath the shoulder armor and you'd have a decent Episode III Revenge of the Sith Vader. Looks pretty similar to that one.

Once the flailing subsides, folks will assume the position.. as they always do.The irony of grousing about the price, is that had Sideshow done a third Vader right now, it would be exactly the same price (or more), and they still wouldn't have gotten everything right.
Great post.I don't think HT is the apotheosis of Star Wars 1/6 everyone hoped for. The Vader has some flaws; I do still think it's better than either of SSC's attempts but not sure it's worth that price; but many will buy it without blinking.
So far:
Bespin Luke: solid figure with idealized likeness.
Smuggler Han: very questionable likeness. What's up with those boots?
Chewbacca: great effort but the likeness/facial structure seems off so far.
Stormtrooper: some minor issues but best combination of sculpt and quality to date. Only Marmit can compete with that helmet but may be too dated in terms of materials and sharpness. Anyone who thinks the SSC armour is comparable should probably reconsider their position.
If the armour is painted and sealed I'm not worried about yellowing as some have mentioned in this thread. If no? There's always 7% peroxide.
Shadowtrooper: Good job for a character out of a '70s newspaper comic strip. Proportions and paint apps seem solid.
ANH Ben: idealized likeness; costume may be a little too refined.
ANH Vader: probably better than both SSC attempts; price is...cocky. Not a perfect replication of what we saw on-screen. Not likely to ever be. Nerd hearts everywhere break. Customizers are vindicated.
Out of all these, we've only seen two production pieces in-hand. We won't really know the highs and lows until at least the end of 2015, maybe later?
Difficult to see. Always in motion, the future is.
*prints out and puts on wall*...I was wrong...
The forum discussion is probably the most entertaining thing about this hobby at the moment.
Truth.
Nobody's ever called me frugal before.
Honestly I look at my SSC Vader and even the loathed Medi R2 on the shelf and what it has right about it vastly outweighs what is wrong about it. It's unfortunate some people are unhappy with a product because of the smallest errors. As for this Vader, the greatest error is the price, but once it becomes coupon eligible, that error isn't so bad.
I'm happy enough with my SS vader. The only thing I kind of want is that suit. It has that quilted look the SS version doesn't have. I hope I can find one separately and swap out
The SSC V1 suit was as good as the HT one. For some reason SSC went with a different (and vastly inferior) suit for V2/DX.
Yeah, V2 is the one I have. It's really awful. Seems like they are going to be about the same size, so hopefully an easy swap if I can find one
