I know its a "color scheme" thing, but wouldn't it be awesome if they came out with Stormtroopers as often as they do clones? I have none and would really like to have a couple to display with vader as well.

Yeah, there's no way I could afford to buy 2 of the older ones with what they go for now never mind the modding that then needs to be done to them. Fingers crossed for a new version!

Only an extra ten dollars, are you sure? I think you'll find US buyers pay that amount, for internationals it's far higher because of how it affects the shipping dimensions. A single-boxed figure to Oz costs around $30, double-boxing takes it up to around $80. Also consider that you get a discounted shipping rate with SSC to begin with. I have only bought a half dozen figures from SSC, all just single-boxed and not a single one arrived damaged. But I think you'll find that, if you're in the UK, that double-boxing will cost a lot more than ten bucks. And no, I don't know if you could rightly expect compensation for parcel damage that is not due to SSC's handling - that's why the pack-out option is there (albeit at a cost that makes it unappealing).

I usually pay around $30 shipped to Australia but Vader is $53. Box must be way bigger.

For now this guy is going to posed with my emperor, either behind the throne hands on belt on next to my kit bashed emps, maybe about to throw him down the pit. These until the day I can put a nice bespin gantry room together

I'll be posing him holding his ***** and saying i hope the villain in episode 7 will be just as cool as me :p.

Best,

Robert

Packout (double boxed) is always an extra $10, even to the UK. Did it for my Midas because i didn't want packing labels on the shipper and just did it for my Mary Jane statue to prevent the hassle of return if it's damaged.

I hate paying it, it should be part of the shipping cost but it beats getting a damaged box or item.

That's pretty reasonable. With the lower shipping rate to begin with that brings a pack-out option back to par. If Henny is worried about the condition of the box then it was worth paying.

Other UK retailers seem to be able to double box all their items for no extra cost. Double boxing with a similar size box will not add any significant extra dimensions to the parcel! Sideshow is the worst retailer I'd use. I have no choice with this figure, but to order from them.

To be fair though it all adds up. Yes they subsidize international shipping but much more so on statues than Sixth Scale. A 1/6 figure costs $40 to ship international and a PF $57. A PF is much bigger and heavier and they subsidize that more.

Then international orders to the UK need to pay 20% tax of the item AND shipping. A FedEx release fee of £10.50 (about $18) and if you want your item to have a mint box on the long journey across the Atlantic then add another $10. It's a VERY expensive hobby for people outside the States. Funny when i hear about California citizens complaining about the 5% tax they need to pay :cuckoo:

Actually, fair would be not hanging the UK's taxes and duties on Sideshow. Their arrangement with FedEx brings the cost of shipper-box freight down by a decent amount, and even a pack-out brings the price in line with regular US retailers :dunno

I've done this topic to death so i will respectfully disagree and leave it at that. If you want to read the thoughts of why Sideshow could do more you can see this thread but they won't so it's pointless to argue.

No, you're missing the point here Racetrack. Which is, irrespective of the codes employed, does a pack-out option from SSC cost any more to get to your door than a double-boxed item from another US retailer? Well? Does it?

I don't know i've never ordered from another US retailer except to my address in the US. Like i said i don't mind paying for the packout because i like my stuff to be in the best possible condition. It was hennypenny who refused to pay it :dunno That being said since it's traveling to the other side of the world then it's more likely to be damaged so including it for free as a courtesy on International orders would "be nice" but the $10 isn't a huge deal for me. Like i said i've been paying it.

I do wish they would have a checkbox option when you order to ask for a packout rather than having to contact them each time.

I'm still basking in the memory of the $36 it cost to get the massive DX04 exclusive set from SSC to my door at the arse end of the world two days later.

Taxes and duties suck, no doubt - it cost Nam more than that for the same box once California had taken its cut - but for me SSC's shipping remains substantially cheaper than other US retailers, so I'm a fan of their MO.
