I had no problem with the speckling seen in the first in-hand pics. I did take it as intentional 'cosmic dust' weathering and felt it was fully justified aesthetically to give it a little more texture and push it away from looking too much like just a large cheap shiny action figure.

For some reason though, mine has almost no spotting on it, save for a very light application on the two hands and even less on the head and wings.
I'm not seeing any on the trunk, arms, legs, skirt.
Weird.

You'll have to post a few pic for us when you have the chance.

It would seem that no one Galactus Maquette will be the same...some have heavy spotting whilst others will have hardly any. Same with base, I've noticed that some bases have had a heavy application of the rusting effect whereas mine hardly has it...

However, I still feel that this piece is a total winner and is one of those pieces which will always turn heads...

You know the earth in his hand thing is a pretty good idea. Of course displaying silver surfer on his arm at the same time would put the globe out of scale. But it makes for a really cool display with just the earth. Where did you get the earth ornament thing? What's it's made of?

When mine gets here I may do the same. All the globes I've found though are ether to big or to small, or lack any sort of detail.

Yup. This is the nature of something like this. While mass produced, they are still given quite a bit of hand-crafted attention. It's to be expected that variances will occur and anyone in this hobby (that wants to maintain his sanity and good humor) should strive for a liberal tolerance in this area. Not saying to accept 'bad' paint apps- especially on a critical area like the portrait- but it helps to keep things in perspective and look at the overall statement and not get so hung up on little imperfections. This is one reason I haven't re-sold anything yet as I dread getting a hyper critical buyer who won't be able to see anything but the few invariable millimeter sized imperfections.
I create art for a living and it's extremely frustrating to see people hold up the finished piece close to their face and focus on a stray line or bit of overspray. Step back and take the thing in as a whole statement...not just a collection of little details that may not stand up to intense scrutiny.

And yes, my base I would classify as having a heavy rust effect application. Looks fine to me though.

OK here's the best I can do for pics. All quite large.

first up, the left hand. This is about the most speckling there is on the whole figure and the only area you can actually see it from about a foot or two away.

...and the right hand. Fine spotting is more visible in person than this pic because of the flash...but the spots are very tiny. I would have had no problem with the entire costume being covered with this.

in comparison, here's the head and chest. The upper arrow is one of the only spots to be found main trunk. Because of the angle, it's not even visible from my normal viewing distance of about 3' away.
The other arrow points to what is more common on my figure- rougher paint apps to edges. Based on the ComicCon photos, I fully expected to see more of this on these. I'm actually somewhat surprised that this isn't more extensive than it is. Like the speckling, I can easily accept it for the most part as it contributes to a weathered, lived in, patina.

You can see more of this on the skirt.

Because of the lighting in the room and position I have it, the brush strokes on the silver center buckle and some of the edges in the purple stick out as 'flaws' more than anything else. To be honest, I probably would have preferred a tighter, smoother paint job with speckling over it, than no speckles and brush strokes...but it is what it is ...

However, I still feel that this piece is a total winner and is one of those pieces which will always turn heads...

Hell Yes!

Thanks Chris...think thats the first time you've actually said anything nice about my displays :lol:lol

In regards to the planets, i think everyone who was considering the same modification or effect would have understood that you couldnt display any of the heralds whilst he has the planets in his hand (due to scale of course) hence why you never see either of them in my pics when Galactus is holding the globes...

Not sure how others feel, but i was a tad disappointed by the Heralds when i recieved them. Hardly much detail, terribly cheap material plus Surfers board has a bizarre upward bend to his board :dunno I actually prefer the planet display to the heralds but they will always be there as an option if i want to chop and change my display.

Strange Sideshow never included a planet of some kind with this piece, after all, we all know how much Galactus loves planets! :lol

The actual planets have been painted by myself and are such an easy mod to make! PM when your about to get Galactus and i'll point you in the right direction

A planet for the hand is a great idea. I was wondering how to make one up with a sheen of an atmosphere- some kind of clear plastic shell that you could paint cloud cover on while seeing an interior globe of blue/green masses. Ideally I would go a little bigger- say about 3-4" in diameter- but I don't now how well the hand would support that size with the two end fingers raised the way they are.

WOW Mose, compare your upper body to my shot and the difference in black spots is totally noticable...you hardly have any! :dunno Thats what happens when each piece is painted by about 15 different individuals! Total inconstistencies but in this case its something that i'm not too concerned with...:)

Since those are probably done in batches maybe SS will stop painting the black spots if they hear people aren't happy about them.

Honesty I'd rather he was clean

I don't think yours, or any of the ones with speckling I've seen, looks bad at all, Roberto.
It looks 100% appropriate to me. At the same time, I probably won't add any to mine- but I wouldn't have had any prob had it came like that.
In fact, having them on there probably helps to mask the weaker aspects of the paint apps in general (visible brushstrokes, etc).

The eye LED is another kettle of fish though, and getting that addressed would frustrate the hell out of me. Hate to say it, but as good as this piece is, the fully functioning LEDs are extremely well implemented from an aesthetic standpoint- and launch this piece into a whole 'nother arena.
If I had a choice between an EX Doom PF and this open ES statue for the same $800- I'd still choose Galactus in a heartbeat. It will be interesting to see when, a couple years from now when SS can no longer offer these at the same price point- and the edition is closed or the price raised, what the reaction will be from the people who sat on the fence.

For those who have him in hand and are'nt happy with the spots - they could maybe try and remove them with a gentle rub of a damp cloth :dunno Seriously though, it is isnt even worth worrying about cos you cant even see them unless your literally up close to it....so unless you are thinking of making love to this piece rather than just display it then it really shouldnt be an issue :peace

and yes, i did say making love :banana

Yea, good points Mose...i still think that people often forget that even though this an open ES it's still a limited edition and wont be around forever. So once its sold out then prepare for the price to increase...not dramitically like a Doom PF say, but still enough to have you kicking yourself for not getting it sooner!

In regards to the light up features Mose, its a shame about my defective left eye LED and i'm curious to see how Sideshow will approach my situation. I live in London so its not gonna be a case of sending it back for another but maybe issue me with just a replacement body as the base works completely fine and then smash up the other one...will keep you all updated. However, i would have been quite happy with just the base as a light up feature....the eyes and chest dont really do it for me :(

Wouldn't be so sure about the production run ending, look at the T-800 Combat.
What's stopping them doing the same with these 'Limited Edition' pieces? :dunno

Its swings and roundabouts Col. Maybe the T-800 is easier to cast and mass produce, i wouldnt have thought the same with Galactus. Beside, the chinese painters will need a rest! :thud: :lol
