Re: The Man of Steel

They're classics and elevate the respective films to another level no doubt

But none of them move me the way tracks like Time, Journey to the Line, Why do We Fall, Rise, Now we are free, do, just to name a few

Same way with the Beatles I mean it's great, ground breaking music but it doesn't stir my soul the way led zep, floyd, or classic guns n roses does

The best music for me is music that actually gives me chills. Schlinders List was one that did that for me with Williams. I'd put that up as his arguably his finest work

Re: The Man of Steel

B-b-but Star Wars, the Imperial March, Indiana Jones, Shindler's List, Superman, E.T., friggin' Jurassic Park!

I mean we're all entitled to our own opinions, and Zimmer isn't terrible by any means (I love alot of his stuff), but to put things in perspective the guy uses a computer and a piano with synthesizers, Williams conducts a WHOLE orchestra. He's more than just a pioneer isn't he, most of his work are classic film soundtracks.

Zimmer does some really good work. I just think John Williams is on a whole different level than most guys out there. Everyone as you said has their preference but folks need to give credit where its due.

Re: The Man of Steel

In his prime, Williams scored more than just movies... he scored an entire generation's childhood.

Oh, and final (release) poster:

Re: The Man of Steel

Great poster

Also how am I not giving credit where due? I clearly said groundbreaking and classic :wave

Doesn't mean it has to be my favourite

Re: The Man of Steel

Jerry Goldsmith laughs at both from on top of his mountain.

And if Nolan would have used Williams then 'Void would like Williams the bestest.

:lol :exactly: :lecture:lecture:lecture

Re: The Man of Steel

I don't like the poster. Less is more. Seems too cliche and in line with everything else done. Meh. :dunno

Re: The Man of Steel

Weird looking poster.

FACE LOOKS OFF, NOSE TOO BIG.

Re: The Man of Steel

It's gotten to the point where I don't even collect film posters anymore. They're just so generic and you can tell some studio intern made em.

The last theatrical posters I ever wanted were the Dark Knight ones, specifically the Why So Serious Joker poster.

Re: The Man of Steel

BTW, I may be mistaken, but I believe this poster was initially designed to be a lenticular with simulated motion. I can see it being pretty cool that way.

I could see that. I was messing around with moving the screen with the mouse and it looked cool. (Yes, I was bored) :lol

But you see, those are all different types of films. I'm going to stay away from the "reality" argument. But this film has a completely different tone then Star Wars or JP. Those are adventure films. This is a different movie. I couldn't imagine TDK with a JW score. Could you? It would just seem off.

Now JW doing Avengers 2, or something of that sorts would be pretty epic and a bonus from the lackluster TA score.

Yup, not a big fan of posters as of late. The smaller movies always seem to be the best ones now days.

Agreed on TDK having the last GREAT posters. All of them were pretty damn cool. Especially the teaser posters.

Re: The Man of Steel

Williams has earned the right to be not quite as good anymore. His 70s, 80s and a few 90s scores are just an astounding body of work.

James Horner and Zimmer would be my other faves.

Horner has Star Trek II, Braveheart, Apollo 13, Titanic, Willow, Aliens and I'm sure others that I'm forgetting.

:lecture:lecture:lecture

Can't forget the Rocketeer!

Williams, Horner and Silvestri are my favorites by far. Zimmer is solid, but the only score he's done that has really moved me, and continues to strike a chord is Gladiator.

Yup. About the only score of his I can remember. He's not even on the same level and JW. People are crazy!:thwak

Re: The Man of Steel

You can prefer Hans Zimmer over John Williams. But the fact is, John Williams is better then Hans Zimmer.
