My figure just arrived about a half-hour ago. The thing is HUGE! OMG... :monkey1 :clap

Nice man, about time. Does your mouth not lock completely shut and does it stay open slightly? It bugs the **** out of me because mine does :slap

I wonder if there was some kind of mod we can do to keep it flush with the upper and lower jaws.

Would a command (adhesive) strip work? I'd think it would be safe for the paint too.

Also, any of you guys have a "show your shelves" page?

:lol

I was scanning my email and read these replies. I thought you two were at each other!

I'll have to get back to you on that. I inspected my REX for a bit and completely forgot to check the spacing for the mouth :slap. It's back in the box (for now) until I create some space for it.

Rex is here! Finally!

God damn the box is HUGE! I knew it was going to be big, but I guess you don't realize how big it is until you see it in person lol. I had mixed feelings about this to be honest, I guess with all the delays and all, but that all went out the window when I opened the box. All I've done so far is taken out the railgun and looked at it and I was flawed. The detail on the paintwork is just amazing!

Haven't actually taken out the full figure yet as I don't really have anywhere to display this yet. I need to get creative in my media room and come up with a display that compliments this piece and doesn't take up too much space.

My only complaint is that it felt a bit cheap and light when I picked it up (well, the railgun anyway).

It definitely doesn't have the weight of high end collectible should.

My complaint is the dipping jaw, the non-removable Rail Gun, and the inaccuracies in the design. It's still worth getting it if you're a big fan of REX.

By dipping jaw, do you mean the jaw doesn't close all the way? I saw a few of you guys complain about that. It doesn't bother me personally since I plan on displaying with the jaw open to show the cockpit.

I did take the rest of the figure out of the box to have a look, and looking at the way the rail gun attaches to the arm, it definitely looks like it is removable, just looks like you'll need to take some care and do it carefully. Someone mentioned in this thread recently they were able to take theirs off.

I still haven't taken the figure out of the styrofoam packaging yet, just had a quick look at the body and popped it back in the box as I have nowhere to display this yet. Really liking the details on this and I'm quite impressed, but as you said, it lacks the weight a high-end collectible should have, which is a real shame given it's price, especially considering that it looks pretty impressive (until you pick it up lol).

Now to figure out how to display it. No idea where to put this yet as I'm really lacking space. Might look into making a coffee table display case with Rex inside, however the top would end up getting scratched up If I used it lol.

By the way, I had a look at the 3A catalogue that comes in the box, WTF is up with those figures? Who buys that *****? they look ugly as hell!

I never understood the appeal of those figures.

So your jaw dips too? I guess it's with everyone's except the press photos taken by Ash

Yeah, the figure was much lighter than what I was expecting. I don't mind though, especially if it was ThreeA's way of lowering the price and cutting down on shipping .

The one thing that I did notice, was that there is a long seam line running at the top of the railgun where the two plastic halves connect. Also, the seam on my railgun didn't connect all the way and there's a small, and noticeable gap :slap. It just cheapens the overall look of the figure, and I might have to fill it in with some putty. I also didn't like ThreeA's liberal and somewhat inconsistent approach of weathering the figure. The backpack of my REX is way too brown compared to the front. In MGS 1, Solid Snake never attacked REX from behind, the backpack would have been the one section on the mech that was most likely free of noticeable damage.

The green color that was chosen for the figure was not that bad. But, gunmetal gray would have been a better choice for the base color.

That sucks about the Rail Gun man :(

I don't think the green is too bad. But REX never looked green to me in game, only gray and charcoal. He's green in all Shinkawa artwork so I don't know why there is such a inconsistency with that :dunno

I never understood why REX looked to F'd up in MGS4. Snake can only attack the cockpit so why is there so many missing panels on it? You couldn't hurt any of REX's hull without a HEAT round from a Tank as stated by Otacon. So the Stinger could no do that type of damage.

REX had the strongest armor plating of any Mech in the series IMO.

RAY was more about agility, artificial muscle and nanopaste. RAY is technologically superior but it wasn't designed for brute strength.

Good point about REX's near indestructible construction, and the removeable panels which don't make sense. Hmm... maybe after Ocelot removed the rail gun, he tried to destroy REX (unsuccessfully) in anticipation that Snake would attempt to pilot it once he reached the hanger :lol. I dunno maybe that was the case, especially since Ocelot was already in RAY, waiting for Snake.

I'll post some pics later with my REX so you can see the railgun :(.

I should count my blessings about mine. I'm so bothered with the jaw issue but yours sounds much worse, I would be going nuts over that.

I'm going to try blow drying it and clamping it down with some rubber bands. Hopefully, that will be able to reshape the plastic and close the gap.

But, aside from that issue with the railgun, I think I received a very good REX figure. None of the panels are missing and all of the joints seem to have a healthy amount of resistance. I've read horror stories on the ThreeA forum about the "axle joints" of a few figures coming loose and causing the legs to flop around. Thank God there's nothing like that with mine :lol.

I still have to check on the cockpit canopy though when I take REX out of the box again. I'll let you know when I do.

I'm Hoping After PlayArts are done with MGS 2 Raiden i hope they go with MGS 4 Old Snake .. there hasn't been a Decent figure of him "Medicom one is old now"

On another note, I've gotten tired of seeing people refer to ThreeA's REX figure as "Metal Gear Solid" REX, when it's supposed to be Metal Gear REX (without the "Solid"), or just "REX". "Here's my Metal Gear Solid REX", "look at my Metal Gear Solid REX". I've seen a lot more of that on the ThreeA forum than here.. bunch of noobs.

Totally agree, actually that was the same thing I was b!t@#n about years ago when MGS3 was announced, the "Solid" part of the title. It always bugged me that the brand "Metal Gear" became "Metal Gear SOLID", since. For me the "Solid" part was associated for Solid Snake's saga starting from MGS1, and then the Big Boss saga should have stayed as Metal Gear alone.
Like...
Metal Gear Portable Ops
or
Metal Gear Peace Walker
or
Metal Gear Snake Eater.

Without the "Solid" looks more like a prequel to me

Not sure man, I didn't actually check :slap I'll check it out this weekend and let you know. Was just stating that it wouldn't bother me if that was the case as I want to leave mine open to display the cockpit. I only had a brief look at the figure then put back in box. Didn't inspect in detail.

The only defect I've noticed so far is what appears to be a small dent in my rail gun, but I think the plastic was just molded that way. At first I looked at it and was wondering if its supposed to be like that (battle damage lol) but I didn't notice the same thing anywhere else so i figured it was a defect. Doesn't bother me really, the figure still looks awesome, and i love the green color in-hand :) makes it look more 'military spec'.
