Re: GDB Studios, Hollywood -- Painted Sculpts

For this sculpt I paint the flesh under the stubble as normal, but use black for the stubble. For a five o'clock shadow I might do what you talked about but Andy B. was good enough to sculpt the stubble for us in this case.

Great thanks for the help!

Re: GDB Studios, Hollywood -- Painted Sculpts

Rod's looking great... surprised to see one painted up after all this time.

Re: GDB Studios, Hollywood -- Painted Sculpts

Skin tone and colors are fantastic on this one mate - your best paint up yet I think :)

Thanks, Sean! He's my latest (not counting my YouTube Locke) so it's good to know I keep improving. :) One of these days I'll get it right. :lol

yup. I'd agree, this is your best one yet imo, and it looks freaking fantastic!

Thanks man!

It was funny, as soon as I unwrapped him from bubble wrap I was like, hey this looks like John Locke's ear. Oh wait, this must be Andy Bergholtz's sculpt from a couple years back. :lol

Great thanks for the help!

You're welcome! :)

Re: GDB Studios, Hollywood -- Painted Sculpts

I've been getting a lot of requests for a follow up with questions about this or that so if anyone has an Andy B. John Locke head they've been wanting to get painted up now is the time to contact me as I will quote you a really good price. :wink1:

Not another John Locke! Yup, and this one comes with an accompanying video.

(For some reason his eyes photograph so much brighter and more colorful than they actually are.)

For more on this head check out this behind the scenes video I made of the painting process:

Re: GDB Studios, Hollywood -- Painted Sculpts

For this guy all I did was play barber and paint the beard. I think it came out surprisingly well considering there is no sculpted beard supporting it.

Re: GDB Studios, Hollywood -- Painted Sculpts

I just got this picture sent to me from the owner of the Julie Newmar Catwoman head I painted for him. I love seeing my paint jobs in action!

Re: GDB Studios, Hollywood -- Painted Sculpts

I recently had the time to revisit the very first 1:6 head I ever painted: my AvP Elder...
IMG_2639.jpg

Painted in February 2009, my main intent was just to clean up the glue around the quills and match the paint of the body. I painted his mouth and eyes but left the dreads alone and didn't try anything fancy.

This time around, I wanted to rearrange the quills -- give him that goatee look, paint the quills themselves, paint the dreads (which took, like, forever) repaint the eyes more Predator-like, revisit the flesh to cheat it to look more like in the movie while still retaining enough of the original pallet so that it looks like it fits in the with the body (as I did not want to take him apart and paint the whole body), touch up the tattoos, and just generally bring to him my 4 years of experience and expertise to make him look overall like a 2.0.
