It's the best 3d I've ever experience. Avatar for me and the few other movies I've seen I thought used it as somewhat of a fad , this seemed to only add to the experience and made it feel as if you were delved into the atmosphere even more. It seemed to fit well with the score and tone as strange as it might sound. I really expected to hate the 3d but it turned out to be the complete opposite.

OK, you have sold me. I, like you am sick of 3D, and think it's garbage (for the most part). I was also pissed that they weren't offering an IMAX NON-3D experience. But it looks like IMAX 3D is the way to go.

i have to agree about the 3D. really impressive. and clear for once too.

good movie. and i know it's not meant to be the same style or even genre, but it doesn't even come close to the first alien or aliens in terms of suspense or horror. IMHO that is.

I agree. It can't hold up to Alien or Aliens but what can nowadays ?. Still a great addition to the franchise.

What people need to understand is that this is not a full on prequel to alien, it's set in the same universe and yes there are little nods here and there relating to alien but the main story it is telling is about the Space Jockeys, its kind of like a half prequel but is mainly telling it's own story.

i'm half sure that's what a prequel is though dude. it clearly shows the origin of the alien species and sets up the start of the first movie completely - the creatures, the ship, the space jockey, everything. screams prequel to me.

Yes - this is quite the truth -- the creative team, the writer mentioned in an interview that they wanted to avoid the use of the word prequel because it will drum up certain expectations, in this case face huggers and the alien as we know it -- this will not be an alien film as we know it -- that's the reason the trailers and teasers not only use music cues from alien, but it is in the title formation as well -- they are saying:

THIS IS NOT A PREQUEL PER SE *WINK WINK*

The story itself does not go right up to Ripley's story, but these events do lay out the future as we are familiar with it...

i'm half sure that's what a prequel is though dude. it clearly shows the origin of the alien species and sets up the start of the first movie completely - the creatures, the ship, the space jockey, everything. screams prequel to me.

It's on a different planet and it's not the same engineer ship, the creatures are completely different apart from the space jockeys, the alien at the end is not even a full xeno, just some hybrid-xeno, yes it's in the same universe but it is mainly telling a different story, like I said more like a half-prequel, even Ridley Scott has said this.

Maybe Prometheus 2 will be more heading towards the events of alien than this.

This hasnt set up Alien in any way though. Nothing that happened in this movie set anything up for Alien it just dealt with this particular story. Even the end of the movie didnt set up Alien it set up Prometheus 2. And the "Proto-Alien" as people are calling it ( i dont know why, proto would infer that its the start of a test type of the species when we clearly saw murals to the Xeno earlier in the movie) Mr Ed Xeno is just another random combination of DNA like the Predalien.

Prometheus at the moment just feels like a higher budget AVP. I know i keep saying it but its hard to avoid the comparisons. When the movies are so alike and are basically the same franchise'ish.

That's what they want you to think, in a way -- there's a reason they are marketing it the way they are marketing it...

In terms of the setting up, however, unless this is a different derelict craft, and space jokey, this definitely sets up the setting we run into in the first alien...

all the marketing with weylandindustries.com , set up the company and its roles in the subsequent films -- as they said very specifically in a few interviews - Ridley decisively refrained from the use of the word "prequel" to quell any specific expactations related to the franchise which has been muddied with all kinds of other "realities" -- that's the reason he placed ALIEN music and visual, cues in the trailers etc...

So "officially" it is not a prequel...considering there's no Hero, villain, or protagonist (any of 3 dramatic main characters) related to any in the sequels (like Ripley) ...though the company, and the elements are in place - though not the way we remember them...(Space Jockey, Derelict craft, the company, hyper sleep, terraforming "building better worlds", etc

There are many comparisons..but this is still an entirely different movie. No matter how high AvP's budget could have been..there's no way it would have been able to compete with Prometheus.

I actually prefer AVP more. The scheme isnt as grand and the visual effects and score are not as good but it felt like a complete movie. With a teaser at the end to leave it open 2 a second movie. The 2nd movie was not at all needed because AVP was wrapped up nicely.

I feel cheated with Prometheus it feels like it set open a 2nd movie because it needs one to tie up all the loose ends and explain all the unexplained in the first one.

Weve waited all these years to find out about the Engineers and we still dont know. Infact, we know less. The movie feels like a waste.
