Just BARELY got a regular set. Site completely froze up when I tried to cart it, and I started from scratch on a new computer. Got through by the skin of my teeth seconds before it sold out. I'm going to consider myself lucky this time.

Yeah it did. I had the page up and F5'd just for the hell of it and there they were. I wasn't expecting them to hit until at least 12pm EST.

Famous last words as far as Mondo prints go.

Now the "I hope I don't get a oversold email" wait.

I was able to get a reg set for me and a buddy. wasn't interested in the variant this time.

The set of three will be way more impressive framed than the variant, which is about a third smaller. It will also require custom framing, while three 18x24 frames can be picked up for a pretty reasonable price. The variant was really not desirable to me, so I'm really glad I got the set.

I'm going to frame all 3 separately and maybe space it out a bit so when you stand far away the full picture will really hit you.

The size of the variant will make it perfect for my son's room. He's gonna be stoked, though he's in full Star Wars mode at the moment lol. :yess:

Okay, I'm new to the whole framed fine art thing so I need your advice:

I had my Mummy poster matted and framed by Michaels back in July. It came out real nice. However, today I noticed that the print is NOT warped, but say there are parts where it's not completely flat. It's not water damage or anything, it's just that it's not right up against the glass so there are parts where it looks a little lifted.

This is exaggerated by the fact that the Mummy print has long vertical bars on it, so you could see them appear slightly rippled from some angles.

Is this poor framing, or is this bound to happen when you frame such a large print with a 2" mat and the glass isn't right up against the print?

Could anyone with more experience than me please comment on this? I just don't know if I should bring this up to the framer, or if this is just something that happens over time when there's spacing.

The only thing I could really suggest is taking it to a store other than michaels and get their opinion. Without seeing pics (might be hard to capture it with camera) or seeing it in person it is really tough to say. I've only had a couple posters professionally framed myself so I'm not the an expert by any means.

Did you allow the print to flatten before you framed it? The rolling can produce a less than perfectly flat result, depending on how long it is stored in a tube before being framed.

Some people take the print out of the tube as soon as it arrives and lay it out in a safe place with weights on each corner. After it has had time to return to its pre-rolled condition, it is stored in a flat file.

So there are variables in storage and handling that can impact the appearance. Leaving it in a tube for weeks or months and then sticking it straight into a frame (especially with a mat) can potentially produce a kind of ripple effect that can be more or less noticeable depending on the particular design of the artwork. General rule of thumb is don't leave posters in the tube longer than you have to.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately, it won't show up in pictures. I brought it to them when it arrived and they stored it flat within the two weeks time it took them to get to framing it. It's not noticable unless you really get close up to it and stare, so I guess I won't sweat it.

I would at least go have it looked at. If it bothers you it's not going to stop. It may be something as simple as repositioning it.

The regular. I'll post pics when i get it.

Do you think there's any truth to this?

That essentially the inks on the art side are what cause the slight rippling when framed? I wish I could show you in a picture what I'm talking about because it sounds much more dramatic than it is. If there weren't long vertical bars in the print, I'd never see it.

I'm anxious to see the Stout poster for Drive. I guess it's going to be a long wait. Haven't had a new Mondo design from Stout in five months--hope we get another one between now and June. I think Star Trek II is imminent--and if so, I hope I get lucky.
