Are prices getting out of control?

I don't mind paying higher prices for items like a Predator or Ironman (tho $200+ was ridiculous). I understand their bodies etc. won't be easily duplicated and reused therefore, HT will charge more.

I have issues with standard figures that use TT, Muscular or Wolverine body that simply require a sculpt, accessories and clothes pushing upwards of $160+. Those figures I will be very selective which I purchase and nitpicky about the detail and accessories for that price.

Agreed with everything you said here :exactly::goodpost: Larger, and ultra detailed figures like the DX, Predator and IM series I'm willing to pay a little extra though I also agree $200 is too much. But for standard figures, I think once they begin averaging $200 retail (which sadly I belive will be sooner rather than later) it will be time for me to find a new hobby.

Or a new company :dunno

Once the average price hits $200 per figure, I agree time to move on. I enjoy my hobby but I have a limit. The money I spend on toys, I could take the wife on a few more vacations throughout the year. I bet she is hoping for a $200 average soon :rotfl

Prices are high, but I still buy... $200+ is hard to swallow for a 1/6 figure. Especially considering you can get a high-end statue for that price, or a PF for less than the cost of 2 figures.

I'm not out, but like others continuing to be selective with what I buy.

I'm at the point where the only thing I'm really buying anymore is the PFs, only because the prices have remained somewhat steady over the years and quality, with a few exceptions, has remained consistent. There has been a slight increase in price, but not the jump that we've seen in the 1:6 scale figures and the pure poly pieces.

For $300, I feel I'm getting a good value with the PFs with the mixed media aspects, when you compare it to a $250 comiquette or a $200 1:6 figure.

Once the price of the PFs jump significantly, then I'm out of the hobby. I can't sustain that kind of purchasing for things that generally aren't holding their value anyways.

Im 99% out..... and to be honest Im glad to be everytime I see these rising prices..... :monkey1

Hey Choopie C-Bus resident :wave

Your point regarding items holding value hits home with 1:6 scale. The majority of figures tend to lose value and when you sell them it typically is at a loss. I don't buy as an investment and I sell to consolidate my collection but losing money is :gah:

This hobby is definitely getting expensive. I find myself buying less of the 1/6th products and now expanding my silver and coin collection. Maybe this is a good thing in that it forces me to invest in more valuable things and I don't have the room for every 1/6th scale item I would want anyway.

just be sure to buy what you want cause you WANT it.
The bottom will drop out just like it did with comics and cards.

Make sure the pieces you have you would want even if they werent worth jack ____... :monkey1

Wise wise words... Exactly how I feel.

Great thing about when the bubble bursts is that you'll be able to pick up all those "must have" figures on the cheap :rock :rock :rock

As much as I hate the price increases, people should admit that the quality has taken an even stronger jump. If you compare the detail and character specificity that has come along with the price you have to admit the collectors are on the winning side. Im still pretty new to this hobby, but what I have seen in others collections is most old figures are standard bodies with different heads and costumes. Today's figures have at least some body modification from character to character, with several having full body redesign. That is a huge cost to have machines retooled for the changes. And what about the paint jobs? The paint jobs are so amazing compared to just two years ago when I started collecting. The subtle freckles and moles that are taking these to the next level of detail. To get something better would take a lot money from a really skilled customizer. I know the debate over whether this hobby is collecting toys or something else is up to the individual collector, but from my perspective this hobby is no longer about toys. This is about low number, mass produced art. I think that with all the developments and price increases these have stopped being toys. Like a lot of you, if the prices keeping going up I will stop collecting because I cant afford it, but definitely not because of the product.

the prices are a bit high but really it's how much we buy that hurts us. Live within your means and don't buy every single thing. Stick to big characters you love for you collection and not any outsiders and you should be fine. Of course if you you buy every figure that comes out from any movie at $150 a pop you're going to be broke. Manage your funds right.
