I know a tattoo artist. Let me see what he recommends.

I put my lotion in the fridge so the next time I put it on the cold will help. I read that works good. Never tried it though. I usually keep my lotions at room temp. Don't want to freeze anything. :naughty:lol

Seriously though, let me know what they say! :duff

Badmoon- it does indeed sound like you are allergic to that lotion so stop using it immediately. I use unscented curel lotion after the first few days. For the first few days I was using the tattoo cream and also some Aquaphor. Either one, both were recommended by my tattoo artist. The itch sucks bro. Good luck. I hope it heals well. :rock

Thanks Rory. I still have red bumps all over and it even extends to my back and parts that weren't tattoed so it definately was the lubriderm. It itches like hell. I started putting my lotion in the fridge and it feels really good when I put it on. I also read that red ink in tatts takes about a good month and sometimes longer to heal. Since mine is mostly red I guess I am in trouble. Something about the dye that takes much longer for the color to come out.

What kind of dumbass would fall assleep? She must have been drugged. When you are getting a tatt it can vibrate your bones! Imagine the face and it vibrating through your entire skull. :horror

My first tattoo was primarily red and it took about a month to fully heal. When ever it was pulled or rubbed against it still felt very tender up until the very end.

I have also read that if you apply too much lotion to the tat it can suffocate it and also create the red bumps or rash.

Interesting! Thanks for the info! :duff

Well guys I broke out big time! Big open sores all over my arm. What is weird is I only have bumps not on the actual tattoo part. I think I am allergic to the yellow ink. I haven't had yellow before and it's the only thing I can think of. So I applied some OLUX. OLUX is a steriod cream. I started applying around 5 PM and am already seeing results. I also stopped putting all lotions and ointments on the tatt because I cant be entirely sure what I am reacting too. If I wake up tomorrow and it is worse I am going to the doctor. So kids! Be careful! Tattoos are a serious procedure! :lol

Seriously though I should be fine. It just has me a bit worried.

Damn that really sucks Keith. It sounds like you are handling it the right way though (not using any lotions/creams)....glad to hear that steroid cream is helping.
I wonder what happens if you are allergic to the ink...will your body just get used to it or will it try to push it out of your skin? I've heard of people having allergic reactions to ink before...just not sure what exactly happens. Hope it all turns out okay. Did your artist offer any advice?

I haven't had the heart to ask him yet. I really think I will be fine. I have done some research and they all talk about bumps. However, I am unique and the past few years stress has made me break out in weird bumps on my hands. So thats why I have the OLUX. Believe it or not though I haven't had to use it in about 2 years. So I am not so sure that stress is the cause. Because if it was I should be applying it to my face right about now. :lol

It's not pushing the ink out. I also noticed that the first time I had small bumps appear but nothing major. However he only use a little yellow during the first sitting. My tail has tons of yellow so I definately think thats it.

I will check in tomorrow and let you all know how I am doing. I think it will go away soon. But for the sake of the thread and documentation I feel it's important to let others know.

Also through my research I have read that no tattoo ink is approved my the FDA and that there is absolutely no way to be sure what is actually in the ink. That is kinda scary. I also read that a good bit of tattoo ink is the same stuff they use on cars for paint! :horror It's just that no one regulates it. I actually never knew that before researching my bumps.

The place I went to uses "organic" inks....don't know what the heck that means...but it sounded good. :lol :lol I noticed I had a few bumbs from the red ink. Fortunately they did not itch that bad and now have completely gone away....it was just right on the red holly berries...nowhere else. Makes me glad I didn't have a lot of red in my tat...though I do love how it looks.

Well let us know how it goes tomorrow. :) You should talk to your artist - don't feel bad - it's nothing HE did...and he might be able to offer you some good advice. I am sure this is something they see happen occasionally.

Woke up this morning and am happy to report that the bumps are going away. I don't know if it is because I stopped putting the lotion on or the Olux. Either way I am going to continue doing what I am doing and hopefully by Friday its all done. :D

I actually know a girl who turned out allergic - she's apprenticing at he shop I go to. When she was living in Connecticut she got a decent sized tattoo right above her wrist, and had it outlined in black, and filled in with a magenta color.

For whatever reason, she turned out allergic to it, and it looks puffed up and like it's peeling almost all of the time.
